This is undoubtedly the best season of all of them. The scriptwriting was on par with other contemporary science fiction series such as Next Generation: Star Trek. Often times it would outshine everything if you were to just peek at crucial moments in the plot lines and how the screenwriting was so fresh and innovating. Each phenomenon whether it be monster, human, or entity made clear the creative writing was unforgettably deranged...... delightfully. These geniuscriptwriters and direction were superb. Not to go without giving hugh credit to David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. These two fine young untainted actors gave impressionable, emotional, and believable performances. This coupled with the two actors beyond obvious "Same Chemistry" fueled the entire push throughout every plot in each episode. The apparent Fox Mulder-(Duchovny) typified as agent/believer and Dana Scully-(Anderson) agent/unbeliever bought a gravity to the viewer to make a personal choice of your own perceptions at the end of each episode. Are you as a viewer, do you agree with Mulder or Scully? Are you now believing in the impossible, or have disbelief based on no hard evidence basing facts on rational and empirical data? And lastly, it was carefully noted that during this first season the scriptwriters did not fall into the temptation of having a possible love/romance between Muldar and Sculley. Which I believe would have diluted and taken away from it's unique plot style and format. Editors Note: This series was hugh in propelling Fox into a viable and serious contender as a new upstart network. It was the third leg of the tripod, the other two legs being the Simpsons and Married with Children. Those who obtain First Season of the XFiles will unarguably know without a doubt that this collection is a must. And fully after viewing the entire first season one will come to grips that this set "First Season: X-Files" is priceless in the consistency of each episode...... the amazement and wonder that it gives to the viewer. The only downside is that each season after this one could not even compare. Thanx, "T.V. at Large Critic" Lance Gudmundsen
