5.0 out of 5 stars The next-best thing to a deep tissue massage!
I recently came across a book that suggested using Self Myofascial Release (SMR) foam rollers to help stretch and reduce muscle ache/tension. I tried out a foam roller and used it for about half an hour going over my whole body, inch by inch. Wow! Amazing!

The Good: Results are great, as it works deep into your muscles. Easy to use on your own. Can reach...

1.0 out of 5 stars Ouch. Try body rolling balls instead.
My chiropractor recommended this roller. I tried to use it diligently to improve my back and neck. I finally gave up because it was just too painful and I wasn't seeing ANY results after 2 weeks of use. The roller hurt my spine and the muscles weren't relaxing. My flexibility didn't increase at all. My abs were getting a bit of a workout. I've recently gotten a...

Can reach most parts of your body without too much effort.

The Bad: Users have to "work" at rolling over the item, a procedure that may discourage some. Item firmness determines how deeply it can work into you. Your better off getting the largest roller available (currently 6" x 36"). I tried the 6" x 18" size, and while it worked adequately-I found myself wanting the roller to cover just a little more area.

The Verdict: Though you definately have to put a little work into moving your body over the roller, the results are spectacular. You may determine how much the roller works into the tissue by controlling how much body weight you put on it. I just can't recommend this item enough... though choose your firmness wisely.

The foam is supposed to be hard; it's very good at relieving tension in your back muscles when you roll on it. It's already done wonders for the knots in my back. Also, if you're into pilates, this works out great. I bought it mostly for my back pain. The sensation that you feel when you roll out on it is supposed to be uncomfortable and a little painful, but after using it daily, it will help your muscles in the end.

I am very pleased with this roller. As a massage aid, which is what I bought it for, it's great. It is also firm enough that I can use it for some balance exercises (which would be difficult if it were softer). Although some have complained that it is too hard for massage on some body spots, you can lessen the impact of the hardness by positioning/supporting your body properly. It also appears to be well made, so i would expect it to last for quite a while.

EDIT- two and a half years later- I am still using this thing and it has held up beautifully. In addition to the massage I do (back and ITB), I am now using it as a yoga bolster, and it's working out great! This was a very good investment

5.0 out of 5 stars Solution to IT Band injury, June 26, 2007

This review is from: j/fit 36" High Density EVA Roller (Sports)
Of course this is not the complete solution, but IT Band is incredibly difficult to stretch, and a very painful injury if not treated. I was able to stretch my IT band better than any other method. I now regularly use the foam roller before and after training (running). Also use it for deep massage on calves and back. Very useful product.

This foam roller is the proper density for breaking up fascia and adhesions in large muscle groups. The fabric covering the foam is attractive and sturdy, and should stand up to long and hard (proper) use. The cover also provides an appropriate amount of traction to prevent slipping off the roller.

5.0 out of 5 stars every one should come out of the womb with one of these in hand, May 6, 2007
This review is from: j/fit 36" High Density EVA Roller (Sports)
I injured my back in 2000 and still experience back pain although I am always over doing it. I have been going to a chiropractor for many years and she introduced this roller to me a few months ago. Since then I have been feeling awesome like I used to before my injury. I have been so excited about this product I have been telling all of my friends they have to get one weather or not they have back troubles. All I do for stretches is lay on the roller with my arms out to the sides, bent at the elbow and let gravity take my arms towards the floor. I also raise my arms in the air but real gentle and relaxed. No big work out just a light stretch. I stay like this for maybe 8 minutes. Then the awesome thing is when I am done I roll off the roller on to the floor and thats when the magic happens. All of a sudden, no more pain. I feel just like a new born baby. I not kidding. It's a miracle! This product was delivered to me the next day after I placed my order and I was so surprised by the fast response from the company. I think every one should own one of these, even for preventing tight muscles and soreness. Thank you!!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you sit at a desk a lot, BUY one of these!, June 27, 2007
This review is from: j/fit 36" High Density EVA Roller (Sports)
These are fantastic. I encountered one for the first time in a ballet class in college for getting knots out of your sore muscles. I'm now a medical student and spend a significant portion of my day hunched over my desk studying, recently for Step 1 boards. Ergonomics be darned-this roller is the only way to get those nasty knots and tension out. It's incredibly useful. Use just before you go to bed, and you will sleep like a baby because your back will be relaxed. Combine with regular yoga and your spine and the rest of your body will adore you.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect foam roller, August 8, 2010

this foam roller is perfect for me. the roller is quality eva foam material , same density as the ones for 10-15 dollars more. I am in a class , and we use these foam rollers alot, a few of us bought our own , so I compared mine to there's ,I got a good deal , without any compromise in quality. the standard ones ,in our gym, like the white foam rollers , are softer , and get a little squished looking,I like the "eva"foam.it holds up better.

Great for massaging sore muscles! Since I have a slender build, I was worried about the reviews that said this roller is too hard. I didn't find it too hard at all - only slightly more dense than the standard white foam rollers and of better quality. I will use this regularly.

I never thought that you could replace the exercise ball as my favortie piece of home equipment - but this foam roller has. It is like a deep tissue massage without the incense. I have used it to stretch and relieve pain after working all day as well as working out. If you travel, this will help relieve the pain of those uncomfortable airline seats. A really good investment - I have used it almost every day.
