When I first got these I loved them, and I just about ordered a few more packages right away. They are a nice, high quality, soft mesh material that seems very durable. 5.0 out of 5 stars Usage Tips...durable, smart, eco-friendlier option, June 25, 2011

We have had these bags for over a year. We use them every week when we go food shopping, for all sorts of produce, as well as nuts and other items from the bulk aisle.

We use them to transport from store/market to home and then for carrying nuts around during the day for snacking.

They have been proven as very durable.

We use other products for storing produce, which are specifically made for that purpose.

Our store has a scale in the aisle which creates a label. We print the label and then stick it onto the cord (on top of the other labels) - {another option would be to use an index card with previous trips' labels stuck on it, most recent on top, and binder- clipped to the bag/cord} - for scanning at the cashier. This way, it's easy for them to scan and we can remove it (cut labels off cord, or remove binder clip) for washing.

These are great bags and much better (eco-friendlier and integrated cord, so no twisties) than using a new plastic bag (or reusing plastic roll-dispensed bags, which are difficult to wash/dry).

If I didn't have a mesh bag already for toiletries when I travel, or small items when I go to the beach/pool, I would certainly use one of these.

In the future, however, I will probably choose an organic cotton bag for produce, as we are trying to reduce the amount of newly-purchased oil-based products in our home, whenever possible. This is not the fault of the bag, so, for what it is advertised to be, it gets 5 stars.

I have been using these bags for a few months and get asked all the time where I purchased them. I have been taking my own reusable grocery bags for a while and always felt bad about still using plastic for produce. They are holding up well so far and wash well. You can see through the bags, so the grocer can see the tags easily when making your purchase. The last time I was at the local natural grocer, the checker asked again where I got them and wrote the name down. They may want to carry them in the store, since they get asked for something like this often. By the way, the Flip & Tumble Reusable Tote - Brown grocery bags are great, too. I always have one in my bag so that I am not often left without a reusable bag.

When I first got these I loved them, and I just about ordered a few more packages right away. They are a nice, high quality, soft mesh material that seems very durable. You can see through them fairly well (like, you can tell what's inside, but reading numbers on a produce sticker would be tricky. I got multiple people raving about them at my Farmers' Market. Problem is, some produce gets soft and/or shrivelled up when stored in the fridge in these. Works fine so far for storing apples in the fridge. But carrots and snap peas started getting soft after a few days, and grapes got shriveled up (I am comparing to a plain plastic bag). If you know you are going to be using the produce within a day or two then they'd be fine. I will still use them for tomatoes, stone fruit, and other produce that will get left at room temp once I get it home. Could also work well for some dry goods. Also, the drawstring is fairly thin, so it works very well for cinching up the bag, but you can't really rely on the drawstring to be used as a handle (like you would with a plastic bag or nylon sack). I still might purchase more, because for the right purposes these are nice bags.

No more wasting a plastic bag that you just recycle (or worse throw away) when you get home.

These are strong and lightwieght, so they don't add to the cost of what you are buying.

I have been looking for produce bags like these for quite a while. Many have been too expensive-- these are just right! Plus, most options require checkers to open the bags and look inside --- but these are super easy to read produce labels through the see-through mesh. They seem to be sturdy and I think will hold up well without snags. Time will tell. These are a great size -- a larger size might be nice. I can see where not everything will fit.

I think these will also be great for wrangling other things such as craft project bits-- I'm sure mine will ultimately hold knitting projects as well as apples. I even bought some for family members to use!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for their purpose., October 19, 2010

For the price and the purpose of these bags, they are pretty good! These could be easily sewn at home, but for the price and convenience, I'll sew up another project another day. :) They are lightweight, but so far, the stitch and mesh have held up very well to heavy produce. The size is perfect for a family to hold the amount of produce one would typically get for a family in a week. Of course, considerably larger produce will not fit in this bag, but neither does it fit in most grocery store plastic bags. These easily compact down to manageable storage in a purse. Being able to wash the produce directly in the bag is also a plus with the mesh. I can then clean the mesh and hang to dry for my next shopping trip. Easy-peezy. But they are also easily cleaned with towels in my washer, then hung to dry. (Mesh dries quickly.) I enjoy the color coded tags for personal reasons of my own mind-organizing needs. The drawstring is lightweight, which makes it easy to close and open. Some of the heavy duty drawstrings are so heavy duty, opening and closing makes it more difficult. Therefore, I prefer the lightweight drawstring on these bags for their purpose.

The only con is that it is hard to read labels through the mesh, even though the description says it's easy to see through. Some others have indicated they did not have this problem, but I'm having a hard time seeing how that's true. I can easily see what is in the bag and know what it is, but you can't see the produce numbers through the bag. Going to a farmers market, this usually isn't much of a problem, but a grocery store, it may be, depending on where you shop and the cashier you get. :) However, with the lightweight drawstring, it should be easy to open and close the bag to get the numbers, when needed. Hardly a problem, in my opinion, but it's worth noting.

That small con aside, the only other issue with these bags would be if someone wanted to avoid polyester. I see another review that opposed such material, but it is clearly stated in the description these are made from polyester. If that is a problem for you, these are not the bags you want. Personally, a reusable bag is a reusable bag to me. It surely beats using throw-away plastic/paper at the grocery store/farmers market.

It also does not state in the description (not at this time, that is) that it is made in China. Personally, this does not deter me entirely, but for someone else, it may be a crucial piece of information they wish they had known before purchasing. However, their website indicates it is ethically made in China.

Another person indicated some goods going bad early in these bags. It's NOT a function of the bag, as it is a function of the produce. You must do research and understand that produce has its preferences for storage. A little research into the produce you eat will tell you what you should do with your produce once you get it home. :)

Overall, a great product and would highly recommend.

I get a ton of questions about these bags; they work great. The are sheer enough that they can be seen through for check out and the size is comparable to the plastic bags in the produce department at the grocery store. the farmers at the market were very impressed ;)

Probably my only complaint would be that after washing them once, the fabric seemed to be a bit worse for the wear. Some of the seems appear to be pulling and I wonder how durable they will be (kinda defeats the purpose if they quickly fall apart, ya know?)

These are well made and I love using them instead of the plastic bags the stores provide which were not only wasteful but would lock in moisture. These go straight from the grocery store to the refrigerator - no moisture problems since these are ventilated.

They're a little short/small for celery and large heads of lettuce but work very well for most produce.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reusable, but not plastic-free, June 4, 2010
This review is from: flip and tumble 5-Pack Reusable Produce Bags (Kitchen)
These bags are made out of mesh polyester. The claim that it is plastic-free is false: polyester is a plastic.
I'm not saying this is a bad thing, the carbon footprint to make polyester bags is most likely less than making canvas or natural-fiber bags. I think I will buy these! Happy shopping!

3.0 out of 5 stars not my favorite, October 31, 2010
This review is from: flip and tumble 5-Pack Reusable Produce Bags (Kitchen)
I have another brand of reusable produce bags that I love, but the come in a 3-pack and one of the sizes is just too big. I bought these because they are the perfect size and you get 5 of them, but I don't love them. The mesh is too thick and it's often difficult for cashiers to read the produce stickers on the items throught the bag. These bags also stay wet for a long time, so if you use them to store food in the fridge, you'll get damp spots on your produce. They're serviceable, but I like my 3b bags much better.
