can you fold the cover back when reading?

Yes, you can fold the cover completely back against the kindle.

Although I normally just leave it to the left you can fold the cover all the way around to the back of the Kindle.

I do not know if that would cause excess wear over timas the cover is of durable feel and design.

David, I've actually never tried to do it. It doesn't seem like it'll endure it. However I wish I did since it'd be easier to handle.
