5.0 out of 5 stars Looks good works even better
Bought this to replace a factory supplied FireWire cable that came with an external hard drive. It works very well, has high quality construction, and looks great.

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage. Dangerous garbage.
Ordered 4 of these, since price was good. Tried one, external drive wouldn't mount, even Disk Utility could not see it. Swapped back and forth between my good, usual, (thicker and shorter) cable, and the old cable worked fine every time, while the new one wouldn't let the MacBook Pro see the external drive.
Tried a second one, thinking maybe just a bad wire in first...

This review is from: 6 foot 6 pin Male to 6 pin Male Black Firewire Cable for IEEE 1394 devices (Electronics)

Tried a second one, thinking maybe just a bad wire in first cable. Disk didn't mount, but Disk Utility could see it, so I mounted it from there. Or tried to: after churning away for many minutes, got a dialog saying that the disk would be mounted "with limited access" due to problems, that I should back up immediately and reformat the volume. This is a Time Machine volume, and haven't had a problem with it with other cable. Decided not to try backup with "limited access" availability (duh). Couldn't dismount from Finder. Tried to dismount from Disk Utility, to no avail; Finder froze. Hard restart. Mac started up in BootCamp/Windows, although it hadn't been running before restart and it usually starts in Mac environment. Shut down computer from Windows.

On restart, my BootCamp partition on main drive was renamed to "NO NAME". Time Machine volume didn't mount. Ran Disk Repair on it, since Disk Utility could see it, but couldn't be repaired: "Invalid key length; Volume check failed; Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed." AND - internal drive needed re-indexing.

So, now I have to totally reformat external drive and start Time Machine backups all over again - some of you know how many hours that takes for an initial backup, and I've lost all my past document versions, which I find handy to have. And I can't start that until *after* the internal drive re-indexing is finished.

Don't touch these 6-foot cables with a 10-foot pole!

Took the plunge, figuring that if it didn't work out it still wasn't worth fighting for less than $4.00 (shipping included). Don't use that often, developed short about 6 months in. You get what you pay for. Next purchase will be from a different vendor.

Wow, what can I say? The cable worked perfectly for my Apple iMac-to-iMac transfer (using Leopard's Migration Assistant). Fast delivery, quality cable, absolutely phenomenal price. This was an excellent purchase! Highly recommended.

There is nothing to say about this really. Its clear and its more stiff than you would expect for a cheap cable.

it's just a cable, but I got it here cheaper than the store, ebay, or anywhere else that would have had this. Thanks! A+++ seller.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Work with Mac to Macbook Pro, September 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 6 foot 6 pin Male to 6 pin Male Black Firewire Cable for IEEE 1394 devices (Electronics)
I bought this Firewire Cable so that I could transfer data from my old MacBook to my new MacBook Pro; however, the end doesn't fit properly into the MacBook Pro. So, if that's why you are purchasing this item, it won't work. It is totally useless for that reason.

5.0 out of 5 stars 6 foot Firewire Cable Review, April 30, 2011

This review is from: 6 foot 6 pin Male to 6 pin Male Black Firewire Cable for IEEE 1394 devices (Electronics)
Unbelievable!! In a world where you can't even buy a gumball for less than a quarter, you can buy a firewire cable for $0.02. Less than $3 with shipping. To be honest, I really didn't think it would work. But it did...in fact, it worked PERFECTLY!!!

My old macbook hard drive died and I wanted to transfer the content from it to another macbook. If anyone else is in the same boat, then give this device a try, but remember to follow these instructions...b/c simply connecting the computers is just the first step.

If you have two macbooks, then these steps have to be followed to transfer files:

1) Shut down the first computer and leave the second computer on.

NOTE: For this example, 1st computer has the files & you're transferring to the 2nd computer

2) Connect the two computers using a 6-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable.

3) Start up the first computer while holding down the T key.

4) A disk icon for the first computer appears on the desktop on the second computer.

5) Drag files to and from the disk to transfer them.

6) When you finish, eject the first computer's disk by dragging its icon to the Trash.

7) Push the power button on the first computer to shut it down and disconnect the FireWire cable.
