Is the drive formatted FAT32 and can it be connected directly to a router or NAS with a USB port? Also, is it DNLA certified?

The drive can be formatted to FAT32, but I assume it will come formatted as NTFS. The drive is not DNLA certified according to dlna.org.

Can anyone suggest a similar external drive I can connect to my router for easy back ups on my in home wireless network? Not terribly techie here but definitely require a back up because my Dell XPS notebook has crashed and died twice in 2 years. Thank goodness for extended warranties but I really need a home set up I can back up to manually or automatically. Would love it if it doesn't create a whole new back up everytime; don't want 3 Ts filled up with the same redundant stuff within 6 mos. :-)
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice anyone can share.
