I live near Dallas, and the Ortho Home Defense does work. The only thing is you may need to do it several times and saturate well. If it rains the process has to be redone. Fleas are tough.

Love the lime tip! For inside the house, we sprinkle borateem on the carpets, including under the furniture, then vacuum it up in a couple hours. You can leave overnight if you wish. Then retreat in a week, and again a week after that.

Pennyroyal, make a tea put in a squirt bottle and start spraying at the most inside spot of the house it will flush them out the door as you spray. Do NOT Use around PREGNANT Women or Animals as it is an abortant!!! I dried some in my oven two weeks ago and was sick (very) for a week from just the fumes and it started my menstrual cycle. Very strong smelling herb, mint family. Get at a bulk health store or tea bags. It grows wild here in Oregon.

We spread lime ( granulated ) on our yard works like a charm !! Its cheep too ! Don't know where they go and don't care. It really works. Told friends about it, worked for them too !! It keeps them from getting in your house too ! You won't be sorry. Im 63 and this is what my Dad always did since I was a kid.The lime didn't hurt our pets either.

Sevin dust. It won't hurt your animals at all. Good for inside flea infestations, too. Sprinkle it on the carpet, wait 24 hours and vacuum it up. Doesn't matter if you walk on it or not, barefooted or not. My husband's family used to use Sevin dust on dogs, puppies and in the pen when they raised hunting dogs.

herbie - Sounds like a wonderful idea!

Does the Sargent's harm grass/flower/shrubs? does it need to be reapplied after it rains?

If you can....get chickens..I have 5 acres and free ranging chickens. They kill fleas, ticks and many other bugs. Between them and my dogs monthly flea & worming pill, no fleas or ticks at all...I love my chickens and that gives the best fresh eggs.

Innovative idea! I would get my pets the lime disease vaccination and some Frontline or Advantage. I wouldn't mess with all the chemicals. What about Avon Skin So Soft for your people in the yard?

My brother found a cheap way to rid his yard of fleas. He lived in Texas next to a lake, and they were bad there. I tried it also and seems to work really well. Buy the Sergants or other flea shampoo for dogs and put it in one of those containers that you hook to your garden hose. Spray the yard. Won't hurt the pets.or the kids. Worth a try anyway before spending a lot on other chemicals. Diatomaceous earth is great for grasshoppers too. Bad thing you have to reapply everytime it rains or you water.

The last sentence to your comment is strange. What did you say.....It is extremely safe though (just don`t breath it) I live in Texas and the only way to kill those buggers is with a Flamethrower.

Fleas can be tough. I have had good luck with Ortho home defense liquid. There is a version you can hook to your garden hose. It is Important to keep the pets and kids off of the yard while the spray is wet, but once it is dry its is supposed to be OK. I didn't have any issues with my dog or kids when I did it. If you don't want to use poisons you can buy diatomaceous earth, but it is only effective while it is dry. It is extremely safe though (just don't breathe it in)
