I am sure this has been done to death. Oh welll. Let me say before I get eviscerated because I questioned a game companies practices that I understand capitalism. I understand I have a choice etc....Also, I play my 360 far more than my PS3, I like the Live interface better, downloads are faster, the controller is better etc.

However, I find it asinine that for years they charged 100 dollars for a wireless add-on. The hard drive is proprietary and costs a pretty penny. The newer 360 models do not fit the old hard drives so I have to spend 300 dollars if I wanted to upgrade to the better system with wireless and muck around transferring all my stuff.

Paying 60 bucks a year for Live? I have not had it for two years and do not miss it. I get it, Live is usually better than PSN and while the menu system is superior I have not noticed any Online differences and it is free on the PS3.

Some XBLA games are way over priced. I saw that some great iOS games were only 5.99 but on XBLA they would clearly be 15 bucks. Or free PC DLC costs money or add-ons like ODST release for full price. I will say that they made the new Halo 40 bucks.

Microsoft is here to make money, I get that. Once you get that cash flow you get addicted to it, so why change because consumers are used to it and willing to shell out the dollars. But they rarely put the consumer first. I wrote a letter when my first RRoD occurred. They would not fix it for free and a week later, after a deluge of bad press and letters like mine they extended the warranty. After being forced to.

Sony has issues (PSN break-in and their arrogance there and in dealing with the hacker). But Microsoft seems so out of touch with the everyday consumer and even developer. Many of the latter are fed up with XBLA and exclusives now are getting rarer and rarer....

Troll? Because I dare question a videogame company? I do not blindly pledge allegiance to one system and dry hump the Allah out of it no matter what asinine decisions they may make.

What the hell is a troll? I have seen one on Lord of the Rings and perhaps Harry Potter. I realize that I am no looker, but a troll? I would much prefer a handsome troll who has potential.

I made some salient points. Disagreeing with me because I decided to make them on a forum is fine but at least back up your argument with one specific counter.

Coming from a 360 owner, I have to agree with you. I still wish Achievements were actually worth something, even to buy avatar accessories or wallpapers (People, please spend your REAL money on that kind of stuff). Its sad though, Microsoft is pretty greedy....

Dukeshire says:
Thank you for the intelligent response. All game companies get greedy. Nintendo in the 80s were notorious for screwing developers. Sony in the 90s. And their launch of the PS3 was a disaster.

I want Microsoft to succeed. Get great games etc. It seems more and more though they are going to iOS and PS3. I am loving Gears 3 but the potential is there and they allow exclusives to slip through their fingers or pay millions for timed ones.

I was there on day one purchasing a 360 and through two RRoD's I do not regret it. But it could have been so much more. Imagine if it had had built in HD DVD....I guess a year later. Built in wireless etc. XBLA prices get higher and higher.

It was the developer of World of Goo that stated many developers are unhappy with XBLA and you can find it on Kotaku. I really do not understand Microsoft's strategy but it is odd when Sony, a behemoth known for making mistakes in the past with products that do not last (Beta Max and others) has the better exclusives and seems easier to deal with for developers.

*Meant to say DONT spend your real money lol. A huge waste of money IMO haha.

True. Which is why I am getting a ps3. I'll still enjoy my xbox for its exclusives (REALLY excited for the Witcher 2 and Halo 4 next year) but I am excited for all of the playstation exclusives I'll be able to get for cheap.

I am enjoying Gears 3 though, like you. Mostly Horde, not a big fan of the multiplayer. I'm more of a halo multiplayer kind of guy.

Dukeshire says:
I am not a multiplayer fan. Singleplayer all the way. Though I need to branch out.

I repurchased a PS3 and got GoWIII, Heavy Rain, KZ3, Dot Heroes, LBP, R1, Valkyria, Yakuza and Metal Gear and Demon Sols all for under 100 with shipping. Now is the time to jump. Dead Nation is sweet and I had Ebay certificates and got R3 for 15....Oh and Chrono Trigger!

I play all multiplat games on my 360. Only one I will get for PS3 is Dark Souls. The controller for the 360 feels so natural and superior. The PS feels too lose and small. Not sure why....

Yeah, and for some reason, I wish online play was free on XBL, I mean, I don't even use the stupid ESPN or Hulu Plus bull. So, why did they increase the price instead of cut!?

PS3 and 360 both have great things about them (as does the Wii, I know "hardcore gamers" like myself or most of us on this board are supposed to hate the Wii and all things Nintendo atm, but that's how I feel) and honestly it all comes down to preference. The 360 has great aesthetics in some ways, Microsoft has nailed the feeling of a coherent community experience with the Xbox while Sony has created very cinematic experiences on their console. Although I have been switching back and forth between playing them (I play my 3DS if I'm not playing either 360, PS3 or Wii occassionaly).

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 13, 2011 7:47:10 AM PDT
It's not just Microsoft that's nickel and diming. Many arcade games come out on both systems and they charge the same price.

DLC pricing this gen has been pretty ridiculous at times.... especially some of the Call of Duty DLC where you pay like $10 bucks for 3 maps!? No thanks. I rarely buy DLC, but I do pay for xbox live. Watch for deals on amazon. I've never paid $60. I buy the xbox live subscription card on amazon whenever they have deals for $30-$40.

I liked the fact that the xbox 360 didn't have wi-fi because a wired connection is better when playing online. It forced some people to go wired if they didn't want to pay for the wi-fi dongle. It sucks when the host has a crappy connection, and I've experienced connection issues when I used the PS3's wireless so I switched to a wired connection.

I just got off the phone with MicroShaft Xbox Live customer support and let's just say that I am real close to selling my 360, games and periphs after today.

I had been renewing my Xbox Live gold account month to month for well over a year at $9.99. I knew I was over spending but my laziness was winning out. When my debit card on file expired, I saw it as a good time to get a store bought pre-paid card and save a few bucks. The card was entered back at the end of August.

I received a couple of emails concerning Micro$hafts inability to process the debit card payment. When I called Xbox Live they stated that I owe $9.99 for the automatic renewal that they can't process due to a defunct debit card number. They told me that inputting a pre-paid card does not "shut off" automatic renewal. I must make a request to not automatically renew. If I would not have input the pre-paid card, I would not be able to use Xbox Live as a Gold member due to non payment. Yet they still see fit to charge me.

They also told me that if I don't pay the 9.99, my account will be suspended and I will not be able to use my remaining pre-paid Gold membership. I was also told this after my request to escalate my call to a supervisor.

I am so pissed at Micr$haft right now smoke is coming out of my ears. I can't beleive that inputting a pre-paid Xbox Live card does not disable monthly service renewels. And then the gall to hold me responsible after the card was declined. I would not be able to use Gold because of non-payment, it automatically makes you a Silver member. Yet they are charging me for something that I would not be able to use anyway. Talk about underhanded business tactics.

FFFFUUUUU Micro$haft!!!!!!

Not to mention the overpriced hard drives. I love my 360 but I can admit that they do try to be a bit petty with things.

@dukeshire... I feel this is a troll thread and honestly... TL;DR. Why would you post these types of threads on Amazon anyway? You have a troll mask on.

Seriously get over the Troll crap. Read my other posts and discussions. I play my 360 EXCLUSIVELY for multiplats. I am questioning some of their business practices. What the Hades is wrong with that. The idea is to spur conversation. They do overcharge on certain things and that is a fact. To get a new 360 I have to buy a one hundred dollar hardrive or pay 300 dollars total. I have to pay 60-90 bucks for Wireless.

I have a choice and I do exercise that. I do not have wireless and I do not pay for Live.

PS3 does charge the same for DLC but some of their games like the PS1 games seem nicely priced as opposed to XBOX games, which still run fairly high.

Fine. I am an expletive troll with my club and I am going to steal your woman for some ravishing. Sweet Allah. If anyone posts anything remotely attacking a game company people get their panties in a bunch and their passive aggressive nerdom gets all riled up. Stop being so blind. Sony and Microsoft do rip us off at times.

This is a perfect place to discuss it as it is a videogames forum. I did not release there were some arcane geek rules that I had to follow and that Lambda Lambda Lambda was policing me! I will go back to gushing about how great CoD's 4 hour campaign is and how they have "innovated" their multiplayer this year!

You have a point. I talked about some of that below in another tirade! I think XBLA is superior but I have heard that some developers are tired of being pushed around. I can link those.

There is one and Gamasutra expanded on it.

I LOVE my 360 and stopped playing PS2 for my Xbox and play my 360 90 percent of the time. But they do some truly asinine things. Allow exclusives to slip and seem to be becoming complacent.

However, thanks to XBLA we do get a lot of "old school" games that we would never get otherwise. Sure some are expensive but some like Guardian Heroes and Dead Pixels are awesome and cheap. I am playing Bastion off and on and it is sweet. While there was the DS, I would argue that XBLA helped revive the platformer and action genre from the 8 bit era onwards. It forced PSN to innovate and now PC and iOS gamers get some good stuff.

Essentially I could play my XBLA and even XBLIG almost exclusively.

one thing that irritated me was the lack of the interactive comic books to create your characters history from mass effect to mass effect 2. other than that, i don't really use xbox live for anything other than the occasional demo or dlc. and the newest sony game system ive owned was the ps2, and after the second one broke i decided to not buy yet another one. (my first was one of the big blocky ones from when they first came out that stopped working after a year or so, the second after two or three.) for current gen i stick with the 360, the only sony exclusive game series i miss is god of war.

You could, you know, shop around and get better deals by not buying directly from Microsoft. I can get a year of xbox live for like $40-45 on this very site, I got a 250gb hard drive for my slim for $75 on this site also. Shop around, you can find deals.

First stop trolling... because you are

1. wifi adapters cost money... that's why for a long time the xbox was cheaper than a PS3
2. hard drives... at least you can change/upgrade your hard drive... try figuring that out with a PS3
3. Don't want to be a gold member? fine don't pay but don't bitch
4. you are comparing games on XBLA/PSN to iOS games? gtfo
5. ODST an addon? again trolling much?

the habbit that comes with playing videogames is expensive don't bitch if you can't afford your habit

dukeshire has valid concerns and a right to post them. Okay, what is microsoft paying you guys anyway. Convinced that drm has a fleet of paid fanboy posters out there. No other explanation for it...

go to - you can manually remove your debit card from your account there. After removing the debit card, redeem the pre-paid card, that SHOULD work.

Hey donkey's posterior, read my other posts on other forums. I compared XBLA to iOS, I just said PSN and iOS are getting some good games.

A hard drive is really expensive. 100 bucks or more. I have one, so I am fine.

100 dollars for WiFi? Seriously. Built in is really inexpensive, so your theory holds no water.

I do not pay for Gold.

I do feel that ODST was not that great of a game. My opinion. I love Halo and Halo Reach, ODST not so much.

Finally, check your spelling errors if you are going to get your all upset. Jesus dude, you give gamers a bad name when you struggle so prodigiously to type out a sentence fragment.

you have to out of your mind. physically replacing a HDD in a ps3 takes about 2 minutes and you can use any 2.5" drive you like. even SSDs. Sony also has built in software to let you back up your HDD and restore everything after replacing the drive. If anyone here is trolling it's you
