All Quiet on the Western Front (if unfamiliar...its a WW1 movie made around 1930...Before WW2 obviously...its very moving and shows before modern movie effects, a well written script and good acting make a film unforgettable)

Agree with above lists as well

When it comes to Vietnam, the greatest is definitely "Platoon" unless you're looking for more of a story. If so, I'd say my personal favorite, "The Deer Hunter." As for WWII, "Saving Private Ryan" kind of goes without saying.

Basil Sands says:
What?
No one posted "Tears of the Sun"?

"Full Metal Jacket" and "The Siege of Firebase Gloria" impacted me when they came out because I was in the Marines at the time. Also "All Quiet on the Western Front" had a powerful effect on me, the original 1930's version more than the 1970's remake.

Also of note are Patriot, Gettysburg and Glory...all very well done.
