R.E.M.'s "Out of Time" will always be the album that defines my growing up in the 90's.

R. Barnes says:
I am one of those people who just don't see what the big deal is with Radiohead. Sorry. :(

Here is my list:
U2-Achtung Baby
Tom Waits-Mule Variations
Suede (known as The London Suede in the US) -self titled debut album
Stereolab-Transient Random Noise Bursts with Announcements
Comsat Angels-My Mind's Eye

Just to throw my $.02 in, I agree with the poster that said that the sole decent album by Pearl Jam was Ten.
Entries listed above that I most disagree with =
The Orb - Orbus Terrarvm
Alanis Morrisette: Jagged Little Pill
Beastie Boys - Check Your Head
Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman

Not saying those albums are horrible to listen to, but they should not even be contenders for best of the decade.

R. Barnes--The title of the thread is, "in your opinion," so I'm not sure why you feel the need to dismiss what others have chosen as their picks for best album of the 90's. I know plenty of people who would say "Dubnobasswithmyheadman" and "Souvlaki" are two of the finest releases of the 90's, so it's not such a stretch for somebody on these threads to also make that claim--in fact long before such choices as your Suede or Stereolab (both bands I also like, by the way). It's probably best to stick with your own choices and not tell others they are wrong with theirs.

Suede "Suede"
Radiohead "The Bends"
Depeche Mode "Violator"
Pearl Jam "Ten"
Smashing Pumpkins "Siamese Dream"

You could also say NINE INCH NAILS "Pretty Hate Machine", which is by far their best (yes, I know it's not the one with "Closer" on it). BUT, I left it off the list because it was released at the very end of 1989. It's actually a 90s album though.

Hard to pick just one, but my top five votes (in no particular order) would go to:
1. The Olivia Tremor Control -- Dusk at Cubist Castle
2. Neutral Milk Hotel -- In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
3. Velvet Crush -- Teenage Symphonies to God
4. Chris Isaak -- Forever Blue
5. Teenage Fanclub -- Grand Prix ('s like the PERFECT power pop album, better than Bandwagonesque)
