Suddenly Amazon has started sending my 2nd day delivery packages via USPS instead of UPS. Needless to say, the packages don't arrive when they are supposed to. If I wanted my stuff sent USPS, I would shop other places, because we have had many packages stolen at our Post Office. I shop at Amazon because I have never had a problem with UPS delivery. As it stands now, I have a package that was probably, once again, waylaid at the local Post Office. Is Amazon sending your 2nd day delivery packages USPS now?

I've ordered a handful of things this week (video games mostly) and they've all arrived via UPS 2nd-Day air, as usual.

I think it may have a lot to do with where you are located (relative to particular shipping warehouse) and what you are ordering. Some items cannot be shipped via UPS 2nd-Day Air.

Do you mind if I ask what you ordered?

P.S. I agree, I would much rather deal with UPS on 2nd-Day air packages.

Don't mind at all. There were a couple of DVDs and a CD.

You were probably close enough to the warehouse that shipping via the Post Office was cheaper.

I take it you have Prime?

I have been noticing that too. They do USPS overnight instead of UPS 2nd day air.

Hmm, I order all manner of things using Amazon Prime every week, but it all comes UPS or FedEX.

"cause we have had many packages stolen at our Post Office." Where do you live? Compton? I hear these stories all the time and i have shipped tens of thousands of items when i was a full time ebay seller and i think in 10-20k items shipped about 3-4 have had problems. Although i prefer UPS' garaunteed delivery i have had about 5 problems out of about 2-3,000 deliveries with them.

Guaranteed. Not sure why i always originally misspell that word at first.

I think that Amazon might have opened a new warehouse in your area and started using the USPS for some of your items. USPS might also have won a contract for Amazon delivery in your area.

C. Boone says:
Yes, we have Prime. We get stuff from Amazon at least 1-2 times a week, and this week is the first time they've used USPS for us. The one package may never show up.
Two summers ago we tried to file a complaint at our Post Office when approximately 15 packages had never shown up, all from different places. The postmaster refused to take a report but, amazingly, we started getting all of our packages from then on. This should tell you something.

In the past few weeks, our USPS packages have come partially torn open, just enough for someone to see what's in them. So, I guess they're at it again. If any more packages don't show up, I'll contact USPS inspections division on-line, and bypass the local den of thieves.

My last order which consisted of video games from the 3 for 2 special actually shipped through Ontrac.

The only good part of them sending items USPS is Saturday delivery. I have a two books that are supposed to arrive today, first things I've ever had shipped USPS when using Prime.

Same with me. I'm on day four for my 2 day prime. I live in a area where the mail people won't bring boxes if they have too much mail that day.
I ordered something I needed by Friday. I wonder what would have happened if I had up graded to overnight for 3.99?
2 day is the main reason I use Amazon rather than shopping in a store. Time to complain but I'm sure it won't help.

Over the past two years, I have had dozens of orders delivered on time by UPS under Amazon prime. Last week was the first time an order (for one CD) came via USPS. It also arrived in two days. The only disadvantage was that the USPS order didn't allow me to track progress of the shipment en route. So far I have no reason to complain.

I've had Prime forever. They have always used UPS, FedEx, USPS and DHL. I've never had a single item come late and I get at least one package a day. More often than not, the USPS stuff comes a day early.

You don't live in an area where mail people don't bring boxes. Every single box leaves the building every single day. If anything, which I seriously doubt because he/she would have been caught ages ago, your carrier is skipping the house and returning with the package. All it takes is a few of those and the carrier would be reprimanded.

In short, your story doesn't add up.

USPS is ALWAYS less expensive than that other company. Amazon is only doing what's good for their bottom line and the customer. Give it a chance, you might find the Postal Service more reliable. In my area, UPS stinks. If you have a "theft" issue with the Postal Service, get them involved...it's still a Federal offense to steal mail.

2332332, mailpeople make mistakes also. I've gotten my neighbor's mail (and vice versa) on many occasions. If something of mine didn't show up, I'd check with my neighbors first. A lot of these rural areas use independent contractors to deliver the mail. It's not as organized as one might think out in the "sticks".

I am very disturbed to see Amazon using USPS. It has been my experience they just suck. I, as many others here, have been a Prime member for a very long time and get several deliveries a week. I have had very little problem. This is my first shipment with USPS and it is supposed to be delivered today, Saturday. USPS tracking sucks also, only being able to see if it was delivered. I did see that it had passed through a local sorting house, however, I have had packages sit for a week in a sorting facility. If I actually get my three packages today I may have to reevaluate. Maybe Amazon has made a deal with the post office and they are trying to step up their efforts. I heard Amazon is also rolling out same day delivery in some locations. As long as it increases the quality of service I do not care who or what they use. I live in Memphis, TN the home of FEDEX and they always screw up my deliveries. UPS is the King! They always seem to get it right.

Not true.

USPS has some of the oddest pricing practices. There are times that Priority Mail is less expensive than Parcel Post, which makes no sense at all.

While for packages under 13oz that can go First Class Mail, there is no question that USPS beats everyone, as package weight and size increases there comes a point at which both UPS Ground and FedEx Ground become less expensive than both Priority Mail as well as Parcel Post, with that point coming sooner the shorter the distance the package needs to travel.

And if we're talking about Amazon's costs, UPS and FedEx can offer Amazon incentives (read: discounts) that USPS can't legally offer. So that tipping point happens significantly sooner than it does for people paying retail rates.

BTW... If you're paying retail rates, remember that insurance costs extra at the Post Office. Both UPS and FedEx offer $100 declared value coverage at no additional cost. Also, every UPS and FedEx package includes tracking, while USPS Priority Mail and Parcel Post only offer Delivery Confirmation, and it's at an additional cost. UPS and FedEx also have date-specific delivery even for Ground, while USPS doesn't even offer any kind of guarantee on Priority Mail, let alone Parcel Post.

And that's the big reason why Amazon should not be using USPS for Prime. Unless they're sending it Express Mail, there is no guaranteed delivery date involved. USPS won't even consider a parcel missing for 30 days. With the Christmas rush coming up, the idea of gambling on USPS for anything date-specific seems to be a recipie for disaster.

But at least Amazon has the software to know when a parcel will be less expensive using UPS or FedEx. They won't make the mistake of incorrectly guessing that USPS is always less expensive.

I was very pleased to see that they are using USPS as I ordered a book late Thursday and I was able to receive today (Saturday). If it was mailed by UPS I wouldn't have gotten it until Monday. Anything is better than that other overnight service they were using at one time (yellow/red).

I would hate it if they started using USPS ...there is no way I can trust them. I've only received 2nd day packages from Amazon via UPS and if it's a Saturday delivery, usually FedEx. I would love if they only used FedEx, but as long as the packages get to me, I don't really care.
