Google

"kindle fire 1st generation basics"

which instructs:

1. From Home Screen, tap the Quick Settings icon.
2. Switch Automatic to the Off position, then you'll be able to tap on Set Time and Set Date.

Is there a way for this to happen automatically, as in when I move from one time zone to another, the kindle will automatically adjust to the time zone I'm in? Thanks.

Hi Jim,

I am having the same problem. I got a Kindle Fire HD yesterday and the time is wrong. I have changed the default to the correct time zone, I have connected the unit to my computer. I have turned the unit "off" and "on" per your instructions and the time is still wrong. Help!!

Same with me. Got mine yesterday, cannot get it to be set at the correct time. When I go to Calendar General Settings, and put the Use Default Time Zone onto ON an scroll thru to find CST, there is not one. Someone, HELP!

Gigi says:
PROBLEM SOLVED. THIS IS WITH A KINDLE HD FIRE 7". DO NOT KNOW IF THIS WORKS WITH OTHER KINDLES. Okay, so I had the same problem. Could not get time set correctly. Drove me insane and then finally!! SUCCEEDED! And you will too and here is how: First, go to the SETTINGS menu which you access thru pulling down top screen, hit more and go to MY ACCOUNT. Click on EMAIL, CONTACTS, CALENDARS. Click on CALENDAR GENERAL SETTINGS. Make sure the USE DEFAULT TIME ZONE is ON. Then click on SET DEFAULT TIME ZONE. Pick whichever time zone you are in. I am in Chicago and there is no CST. I clicked on GMT setting which is under CENTRAL TIME. Then hit back arrow back to your SETTINGS menu. NOW..... almost one... Go to LOCATION BASED SERVICES and turn that on. Then hit back arrow to take you back to SETTINGS SCREEN. Then go to DEVICE. Go to DATE AND TIME. Go to SELECT TIME ZONE and go from there. Since I am in Chicago I clicked the GMT setting again. I also have my USE 24-HOUR FORMAT to OFF since I don't like that format. Good luck everyone and I hope this works for you. I was up for hours last night. Googling, watching videos but nothing worked. It was thru the process of elimination that this worked so I hope it works for you also.

T. McDaniel says:
If GIGI's directions still don't fix the incorrect display time on your Kindle, try this:
1. In the swipe down menu from the top of the screen, click "More"
2. Click "Device"
3. Click "Date & Time"
4. Click "Select Time Zone" and make sure your correct time zone is selected. This should update your Kindle's display time immediately!

*Note: these are the directions for a Kindle Fire HD (other Kindle devices may have other menu pathways and options).

my kindle fire won't let me manually change the date. It's in the right time zone, but the date is wrong. I don't have anything about an automatic button in my settings. I've turned my WiFi on and off to try different ways, but the date and time are both grayed out. I can only select the 24hr time and the time zone itself. I talked to amazon and they said my kindle won't let me change it manually. I personally don't think that's accurate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

A.M. Paulos says:
Same problem here. I suspect that it attempts to synchronize with Amazon's NTP servers once internet connectivity is established. However, I have a login web page my ISP requires first. I noticed if I went straight to the mikrotik router's page, my time would not get corrected. But if i allowed my browser to redirect from the targeted amazon.com page, the time would correct. Though sometimes, unfortunately even after routing to the amazon page first, my time still won't correct. I suspect that my ISP is blocking ports. Too bad the HD Fires don't allow for manual time setting.

We have 2 new Kindle Fire's and the time and date have been incorrect since the start. I can't manually change the date. Time zone is correct. I followed the step by step from Gigi above and nothing. :(. Trying to be calm, but very annoyed as these were Christmas gifts. I've downloaded apps yesterday and everything was great. Today, none of the apps will work. It says there was an error and I need to download again from the store. Can't get the little white x off wifi, even though I was able to download apps yesterday.
