WTF is going on with movies I have purched no longer being accessable?

I gave up looking for them and the caliber of movie wasn't a great loss. Otherwise, I would be really mad. As other posts indicate, download the movie as soon as you can to be safe. I went back and took the time to download my "on-line library." I am really worried about the Kindle Fire since it will rely heavily on cloud storage!

I was going to watch some of the movies on my Wish List over Thanksgiving and all of the movies were no longer available. There is no digital version of those movies ('How to Train Your Dragon' and 'MacGruber' are two examples) available at all.

So through Amazon, I search for the show, clicked on it and got a message 'Due to our licensing agreements this video is currently not available for purchase or rental.' Then I went to my email to try to access the show that way. Same message. I want my money back.

Amazon is gay, i rented a movie on the roku for $4.99 (Said we had it for 48 hours to watch) tried to continue the movie a couple hours later and what do you know, i can't pick up where i left off and they charged me twice. Get your business straight Amazon because you lost me and most people i know as customers.

And while I know about the "new releases" that may become "unvailable" I would THINK (for those of us using Roku or other streaming devices) that a "date ending" warning WOULD be appropriate-or at LEAST a notification when buying that it MAY be unavailable soon. I find it absurd that Amazon will CHARGE ME what I would pay for a DVD-and then suddenly and with no warning take away my rights to the program-particularly when, if I bought the DVD, I would have IT forever. That is what purchase MEANS-and anything else is nothing more than stealing people's money. BUY means BUY. I am VERY disappointed in Amazon for this

Amazon claims if you read their licensing agreements you will see that it is the case that you may lose complete access to the service but their are zillions of software and content licenses out there and there is a notion that they are there to protect the content owner from you doing something illegal (like re-selling software or content) - not just using it in the way that it is implied you can use it. Do you really read the software license for every piece of software you use or CD you buy (if you still buy CDs), etc. etc.?

Amazon advertises in large print that you are "buying" the video (assuming you chose to buy and not rent for a short period of time.) The implication is clearly that you will have access to this video for as long as Amazon manages to stay in business and one would assume that Amazon made an arrangement with the content provider that for those who have licensed the content on a perpetual basis that the content will be available to those individuals. They don't advertise you are licensing the content for the same price you could purchase a DVD for until the content provider decides otherwise. As I said the majority of the individuals in the world will assume the license agreement is there to prevent them from pirating the content - not using it as it was advertised it could be used.

I have been in the software and content business for 25 years. I know how licenses work. And I know, as any honest person will admit, that most people don't have the time to read them all. So, is what Amazon doing "legal"? PROBABLY (though there is a notion of reasonable expectations built into most laws and I would claim in this case that bar has not been met.) But is it "ethical"? I would say no - I would say it is deceptive and a tremendous disappointment from a company I have been a customer of for over a decade and normally regard highly. They have tainted their brand in my mind.

(It's like buying a box of with a picture of cookies on it from the supermarket aisle where all the other cookies are placed. On the bottom of the box, in small print, there is a statement that the box does not contain cookies - just little pieces of wood that rattle around and sound like cookies would when you shake the box. It's common convention to assume a box with pictures of cookies on it in a cookie aisle contains cookies - you shouldn't have to read the fine print to see otherwise and I'm really not confident it is legal.)

What's with the licensing issues! I have watched Greys Anatomy since series 1 on lovefilm and had 1 more episode to watch in series 8. Sat down tonight to do just that and now EVERY series is "unavailable due to licensing agreements". Furious!
