Is there a way to have the free prime video plan thru my Tivo? I know paid video will play, what about the free stuff?

I have the same question, I have an older Series 3. My guess is no.

Do we know if this is temporary, and have they said why? (I'm assuming it's a $$$ issue, but is there something else going on?)

The free prime videos are only for instant streaming. Tivo doesn't stream instantly, it downloads the entire video to your Tivo box. There are some devices, like the Logitech Revue (Google TV), and Roku (I think) that do stream the free prime videos to your TV. I'm not familiar with Roku, but with the Logitech Revue, you're basically using the Chrome internet browser and its integrated Adobe Flash plugin to navigate and view Amazon Instant Videos.

Well Jake I have to question your assertion. My Tivo has streamed everything I ever watched fron Netfix. I have a Series 3 HD. It also streams youtube, and Techzilla. From my experience with TIVO, I suspect they want a fee from Amazon, or some a percentage, just my guess...

Yes, the Tivo is capable of streaming video; I used to stream from YouTube. However, it doesn't stream the Amazon videos. You're probably right that it's probably a payment issue between Amazon and Tivo. I have never used Netflix on Tivo, so I don't know if it streams or if it caches the video temporarily. From my experience streaming YouTube to the Tivo HD, the quality isn't stellar. I now use my Logitech Revue to watch YouTube videos (and Prime Instant Videos).

It was just announced that Prime free streaming would soon be available on XBox (http://goo.gl/IArsz). Let's hope this is a sign that it will expand to the other Amazon supported platforms (TiVo, PS3, Google TV, smart TVs, etc. - http://goo.gl/uso6G).

Wrong, Tivo (at least the premiere boxes) do in fact stream instantly. They do in fact stream instantly from Amazon also. Its all a matter of Amazon making the PRime video's available for streaming to the Tivo's. They haven't yet done that.

I suspect they may not do it. They do the same thing with the book library. You can only check out Prime 'library' books on an Amazon branded device. They want you to buy a Kindle is the tactic.
