Streaming video not working

For the last few weeks, I have been unable to watch Amazon Instant Video on my PC. I have used this service for years with no problem, but now I just cannot connect. My computer has not changed, my internet connection is the same, and I can watch other online video such as Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube just fine.

I tried updating Flash, but that didn't help. I've tried using a different browser (IE9 instead of Chrome), but that didn't help, either. This makes me think Amazon has changed something. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a way to deal with this?

Exact same problem on my Mac using both chrome and Safari. Can't watch episodes I've purchased just get an endless "connecting" screen.

I am having the same difficulty. It states I need to update my flash player and I have..Some other movies I can still watch in my library. But, one by one they are all "going down"... I have written to Amazon customer service and was told I would get an answer in 12 hours and received nothing. No response and no fix on the problem. Any advise or thing anyone else did to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. I have a PC, brand new. I also noticed that they started sending me emails to buy the DVD AND stream it. This does not make sense to me. If I already purchased it to stream watch anytime anywhere. Odd.

I've a IMac, speed tested my connection @11+ Mbps...tried watching "free Prime" video of Wallander....1 green bar connection + buffering like crazy = unwatchable...yesterday, no problems...(?)

For some reason, the streaming video is working for me now. The only thing I did was shut down and then restart my computer (I usually just put it in sleep mode instead) and then re-re-install the latest Flash update. I had already installed this version of Flash, but not right after a restart. I don't know why this would make a difference; it might just be a coincidence.

I can't connect to any movies or tv shows on my kindle fire hd. First started experiencing the problem yesterday (3/14). My internet is working fine, including on the kindle. Also, some shows that should be available free to amazon prime members only show with a purchase option.

I have the same problem, if you paid for Prime and cannot view videos then Amazon should refund fees.

I'm having the exact same problem- on a PC using Chrome and suddenly Amazon Instant Video won't play anything. I'd just watched a video the night before and, as far as I know, I hadn't changed anything between one day and the next. Using IE isn't working, nor is updating Flash. All I get is endless loading dots.

Same problem, yet when I go to another machine (a MacBook Pro using Silverlight) it works fine. On another forum (Amazon Instant Video not working on my PS3) I found a useful post by R1salge that may not address the root of the problem but was a remedy, at least for the short term.

R1salge says:
I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with Amazon. Eventually we figured out that it was Silverlight that caused the problem in my case.

You can switch to using Flash to play the video by entering "?player=flash" at the end of the URL.

This switching fixed my problem and to switch back all you would need to do is put "?player=silverlight" at the end of the URL

Brilliant! That worked like a charm. Thanks so much!

point is, you shouldn't have to do that

Totally worked! I guess the last Windows update or ITunes update changed my default to Silverlight...fixed it.

Just cut and pasted that (minus the quotations) to the end of the URL and hit return and it worked like a champ. Thanks!

I have had this problem twice in the last few weeks...everything works fine, and then it doesn't. I get an endless circle of blue dots and no video ever loads. After scouring the net for a fix I finally came up with this:

Go to your start menu, and then to Microsoft silverlight and open it up.
Go to the tab that says "application storage"
Click on "delete all"

After that, refresh your browser for the video your trying to play and it should work right away, worked for me like a charm. I tried clearing history, cache, uninstalling/reinstalling silverlight, disabling silverlight and trying flash (flash loads too slow on my pc) and this is the only thing that finally worked. Hope it helps!!

Finally, someone posting useful information instead of just bitching. Thanks lleach...worked for me...mine died for a dead battery. No idea why but it wouldn't work after. Your directions did the trick!

Thanks a ton, none of my browsers were streaming before. The problem needs solved on their end, but I can live with this temporarily. Thanks for saving us all from having to make the call.

I just signed up for Prime for the free streaming. I've tried Firefox, IE, Maxthon, Opera and Safari. All are up to date as are flash and Silverlight. I am running Windows 7. I can get to the loading screen, but it sits there and never loads the video. If this is how Amazon is going to run this, I'll be asking for a refund.
