First, I really like this trimmer/edger, and I don't have any issues like those others. But my only problem is that I need to replace the battery and could not find one. I talked to Sears that sold to me but they don't know. I wrote to American Gardener Co. but got no reply. Search all over the Internet but no luck. I feel like I bought a disposable tool. It's like buying a car but no gasoline available except the one in the tank when you bought it. What company has the nerve selling item like this without making a label as disposable? Tool about $100.00 disposable? Any thoughts out there?

I have a YS24 since 2003 and really like it. I've replaced the batteries at least once and am doing another replacement right now.

Look for a 12 volt SLA (sealed lead acid) battery UB1234 or 100541. You'll find it listed under either generic part number.

The YS24 requires two of these batteries.

Thanks unselfish friend. I will try to replace battery rather than dispose it.

Hi Wawa,

How hard is it to replace (read - how do you do it :)) ? I can get the battery at the local batteries plus for $30 each. Is there any way of knowing if I need both or one (since you can get a new Toro 24V for about $150 and am wondering i shouldn't buy a new)

Last edited by the author on Jul 2, 2012 12:44:09 PM PDT less than $20 each--about $8 shipping for 2---very easy to replace just unscrew the cover and you will see--mine was held on with velcro straps and 2 wires-- open it up before you buy to check out part number on battery--buy 2 not 1--toss the 2 old ones
mine was 100541 $17.95 each $44.69 total for 2 including fedex shipping

Another good source is At I bought 2 Amstron 12v/3.4 AH and they work great. The pair cost a total of $42, with a $7 shipping
charge from Ca. to Wi.

Go to Batteries Plus...they have the battery in stock.

I have a problem with my Yardstick charger. The indicator light stays green...even when the battery is nearly dead. I bought a new battery...and faced the same results. Any ideas?

The batteries are readily available on line and in stores if you kive in a large metro area. You should buy two 12 volt SLA, 3.4 AH batteries. I've replaced mine twice.
