In the Native legends passed down by the Odawa, Andrew Blackbird wrote that "it is evident that this country has been inhabited for many ages, but whether of the Jews or of other Eastern races there is no way for us to determine." Odawa Language and Legends, p. 118.
Were the people Jewish, who mined the copper in the Upper Penisula of Michigan? Has any DNA research been done?

Twister says:
When I was researched "Where the Rivers Run North" I was sent a report on Jewish settlements in this country before columbus landed. When I get back to Wyoming in the spring I'll dig it out and respond.

Thank you. I will look forward to it. I'll also read your book about which I've heard favorable reports.

What planet are you people from? There are no "lost" tribes from outside North America that came before Columbus. Clearly, there was some earlier colonial activities, ie Vikings, but no other peoples came to North America and taught us how to live good. These crackpot theories are a relic of the 19th century where it was thought that anything advanced engaged in by Indians had to have come from somewhere else because we were just heathen savages.

This is something that may never be determined. There IS definite evidence of copper mining operations in that area dated to approximately 3000-4000 years ago. Native Americans did use copper or alloys to a very small extent, but the few copper artifacts extant do not account for the estimated hundreds of tons of pure copper deposits removed from the Great Lakes area in that era.

I heard that a DNA was performed by a professor that was a Mormon Bishop, However when he published his results, He got excommunicated. Hum, I wonder what the results were?
