I was just out at the NAMM SHow (the trade show for all the Musical instruments type products) and I saw a few things coming out like this. First act will be releasing some guitar AMPs this year that you can plug an iPod into. There's some other brands doing similar things with iPods this year. Seems like US Music was showing a piece that plugs a guitar in to a TV or a computer to wotrk with softaware that was good for teaching you guitar.

Actually, most starter amps such as the Marshall MG10CD has a input for CD Player/MP3 and you could just plug your iPod into that, but you will need to buy a converter cable (2.5mm to 3.5mm).

Line 6 makes a bunch of products that will do what you're wanting. The TonePort UX1 or the UX2 come to mind. The units interface with your computer or laptop, and the software can model hundreds of amplifier/speaker cabinet combinations, and also have a ton of effects. You can design your own sound or use the included presets. Anyway, for what you want, the units have both analog and digital outputs, so you can send the sound to your amp, your ipod, your TV, or whatever you want. The unit also has the same for inputs, so you can play your iPod, CD, MP3, and even your TV through it.
