Since Dr. Robert was shortened from 2:56 to 2:13, how come it was faded out early? And another thing. How come a longer version made on May 12, 1966 was released on Yesterday and Today just like I'll Cry Instead?

@Donna C.Celano: since the band is just starting to jam nicely as it fades out, I've always salivated over the prospect of hearing those extra forty or so seconds; it's one of my most-wanted still-unreleased outtakes. It's possible that the group or Martin considered the extra instrumental bit superfluous to the song (remember that while The Beatles were experimenting heavily on "Revolver", the jam aesthetic was one of the few things they *weren't* pioneering on that album, as they still stuck largely to conventions of pop structure; unfortunately for us, they cut out what sounds tantalizingly like one of the best Beatle jams of that period).

The reason why different versions of "Doctor Robert" and "I'm Only Sleeping" made it to "Yesterday And Today" is that the early mixes were sent to Capitol that May, who demanded product to be released ASAP. When the tracks were later readied for the UK "Revolver" a few weeks later, they were mixed again, creating different versions.

Maybe the true ending was accidentally fading out, according to the US mono shown on books, forums and Variations guide because there's a hidden chat by John Lennon.

This reminds me of the 5:54 version of You Never Give Me Your Money from the Unsurpassed Masters Vol. 5. Instead of the fade out that goes into Sun King they just keep jamming. There's some nice lead guitar in there, I'm assuming from George?
