How can anyone make up a 10 best list? There are as many writing styles as there are tastes in literature and the personal reasons for reading the genre. I find an author I like and follow her or him. I usually read them dry and wait for their next published work or if their work becomes stale and not growing, I move on. I read mainly fiction for the escape value. I am a teacher so I read a lot of non-fiction, but there is great value in getting lost in a good, fiction book!

My all time favorite- War and Peace- Leo Tolstoy. Best novel written for long time reading.

I love to read, didn't grow up with TV, so have read extensively for over 50 years. Many of the new popular books are poorly written, boring, and quite plainly trash. What's with all of the profanity--does it say, "I'm intelligent, or lazy?" However Bill O'Rielly always writes a quality book, whatever his subject--he doesn't shy away from controversy. Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy are well written and thought provoking. I also really like Joel Rosenberg, causes me to think beyond my American culture. Old classics are up on my 10 most favorites. Spring Roses

I agree with another poster - this list is obviously Amazon's list of what we think we can make money on.

Sometimes I worry about the intellect of our country. We call bodice ripper romances literature and just look at John Boehner and the House of Representatives.

What is the criteria for your choices? Where is Killing Kennedy? NYT has it in the top 5 since it came out . Though Killing lincoln has been out more than a year it has been on the NYT best book list for over 60 some weeks, does it not get honorable mention?
