I'd never experienced a book on crime making me laugh SO much, completely enjoyable as a break from a thriller that grabs you in a deeper way.

Agree agree agree about
Tom Cruise being cast as a 6 foot five inch Jack Reacher. Not to mention the character himself doesn't resonate with anything Cruise could pull off :-)

Tom Cruise is the top billed producer for the Jack Reacher film he didn't need to lobby for the part. In fact Lee Child has a cameo part in the movie. At the end of "A Wanted Man" in the about the author section it has been stated that all Lee Childs books have been optioned for major motion pictures. His ebooks started at $8.99 and are now up to $13.99 except for two novellas he wrote. In an interview in Playboy Mag a few months back, Child was unapologetic for his desire to earn as much money possible even if it meant having a shorter Jack Reacher. He wanted to make sure Jack had the intellect and abilities but knew he would most likely lose the height. A sacrifice he was willing to make in order to have the movie made. Author Diane Capri has also written some short stories about Jack Reacher which is "The Hunt for Jack Reacher" series. They start at $2.99 on up.

Again I state that Cruise bought the movie rights and placed himself in the starring Reacher part. Duhh.

The best author I've read in mystery/crime is Louise Penny. There are 8 books, read them in order. Beautiful writing, lovely flawed characters. Penny is a Canadian. I could go on and on but I think you'll love this author.

Thank you for mentioning Sara Paretsky. One of my faves. Nice Chicago flavor and a very nice lady, incidentally.

I agree! Two of myfavorites. So often I find a thriller has a good plot ,but poor writing. These a
authors have both.

Lee Childs sold the rights for all of his Reacher novels to Tom Cruise, so Money talks apparently.

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 8, 2013 3:38:25 PM PST
It truly is about the money. Lee Child clearly stated that in a Playboy Mag interview. Don't know which issue as my hubby passed his older issues away. Also in the most recent Jack Reacher book Lee Child stated that all the books have been optioned for major motion pictures.

This is in response to an earlier post dated February 4, 2013. Welcome to a discussion that has been raging for some time now. Apparently you and I were writing posts at the same time but you pressed send first. I have addressed this topic a few times since December 2012 but have added new info I have garnered each time. I always hope these discussions will be friendly and people polite but "duhh" what was I thinking.
