Dada Reborn: 21st Century Poems

Please let me know if you have written a book of new poems so that I may read it. The world needs new poems!

Joseph,
I'm delighted someone is posting about poetry! Absolutely, the world needs new poems, and many good ones never see print. Do you yourself write? Are you interested in any particular kind of poetry? I have some interests, (Anne Carson, Jorie Graham, Mark Doty, Cole Swenson, even W.S. Merwin, etc. etc.!) and non-interests, (Billy Collins, anything facile or flip, simple narratives with no point except the desire to talk about one's life.) Yes, I write, have had some good mentors, but am continually overwhelmed by the publication process, so have had only minor success here. Keep reading!

I totally agree. I have written and self-published nine 100 page books of poetry over the last ten years and have given them to family, friends and neighbors who find them both reassuring and entertaining. I'm currently working on book 10. We sold the first few at a fund raiser with the proceeds going to a senior learning group. I also have had them copyrighted by the library of congress.
So many people have told me that they keep a copy on their bed stands and it gives them comfort when they are upset. I wish there was a market for them so I could share them with a larger audience. But since there isn't I'm glad that some peple enjoy thm.

A lovely statement: "The world needs new poems."
The always wondrous poetry of Mary Oliver rates high with me. Also Judith Barrington and Ron Talney. So many poems, so few the years to feel them all ...

Have a pass at my Amazon selection of books of poetry by entering Daniel Abdal-Hayy Moore, with selections at my poetry blog: www.ecstaticxchange.wordpress.com. I wouldn't normally be so forthright (really) in self promoting, but along with Shirley Young above, perhaps the "market" for our work simply hasn't heard of us... or had a taste of the tangy-ness available... and perhaps any opportunity is, well, opportune. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=daniel+abdal-hayy+moore

If you like spiritual poetry, have a look at my book The Allegory of the Desert. However, the poems are thematically interwoven with prose passages to sustain the allegorical motif.

Leslie--I too am overwhelmed by the publication process. I see that Shirley Young is "self-published" and has given her books away b/c unless you have a marketing venue which includes mailing your poems to various small press magazines and hoping that they will be published, or to poetry contests that charge anywhere from $15-30.00 as an entry fee and hoping they get published, the secret door which allows poets to become known is like a pig with his snout in the dirt searching for truffles, and I haven't found the door nor a truffle. I prefer spending my time writing rather than work at the business of publishing; and, it is a business to be sure so I need to hunker down and get to the job at hand. Good luck to all of us out there who wish their work could take flight from beyond the endtables of our family and friends' bedrooms.

I agree with the whole publishing thing. I went through a self publishing company and they told me after i have spent all my money on getting my book published that I dont care about my work. I care a whole lot about my work. Just because I dont have a lot of money to spend on marketing does not mean that I dont care about my work. Anyway I am sorry to rant. If you will please maybe check out my book Pieces of My Soul by Cassandra L. Howell. I think they still have it on here.
May the words forever flow from your pen,
Cassandra
