Christine says:
Would Republicans have been less tough on Pres. Obama if he had been 100% caucasian?

No.

Posted on Jun 25, 2012 11:33:17 AM PDT
It is not about his color, but the policies he espouses

They had equal disdain for Jimmy Carter, a southern white male. Race can be a motivator, but it can also be a cloak to hide behind as well. The fact that some Republicans portray him as a cunning quazi-socialist, actually contains a bit of respect. This is a contrast to how Democrats portray Republican Presidents as bumbling idiots, which strips them of any respectability.

Do you want what the Republicans have to offer? Then just look back at the last 8 years and see what you are going to get more of. Rs policies have blocked any positive programs. End of story.

Christine - "Would Republicans have been less tough on Pres. Obama if he had been 100% caucasian? "

I personally believe the percentages opposing him would be the same. I think Republicans would probably vote for Clarence Thomas, so you can't fairly say they just don't like black people. However, I do think much of their criticism is phrased in ways that play to racists. I see a lot more race-baiting than what I would consider outright racism. Playing on racial fears, stereotypes, etc. Sort of like Reagan's anti-welfare campaign in the 80s used a lot of pictures of black people, even though there are far more whites on welfare than blacks. Similarly, during Katrina I made $5 by betting that Fox news would show only pictures of black looters, despite plenty of looting by whites as well. But this crowd is pretty sleazy anyway--they ensured that semen-stained dresses were the topic of conversation on the news every single night.

David Hawxhurst - "This is a contrast to how Democrats portray Republican Presidents as bumbling idiots, which strips them of any respectability. "

I didn't consider Reagan or either Bush pres to be idiots. Certainly not Nixon. Bush père was just considered ineffectual, and Bush fils is most often criticized as incurious. For a leftie, that's even more of an intellectual sin than being dumb. Presumably dumb people can learn, given a modicum of intellectual curiosity. We're all dumb and ignorant to one extent or another.

What's more, right-wing candidates, excluding perhaps Romney, take pains to show that they not only aren't effete intellectuals, but indeed sneer at the eggheads and know-it-alls who would tell us what was what, as if they knew better just by virtue of all the school they went to or the science they did. They try to stake out the 'common man' position, which GOP voters seems to think is incompatible with an inordinate amount of erudition. Conservative talking heads ridiculed Gore and later Obama in just these terms, because it plays to conservative voters. It's a bit tricky to openly repudiate erudition and then object to being characterized as thick.

Baloney we have had many presidents more liberal than Obama and they never were subjected to the viscous attacks that Obama has had to put up with.

K. Bodkin says:
I ama Republican and among my GOP friends, TeaParty contacts and right wing friends I have NEVER heard a disparaging word about Obama's race status. He is a poor President, heading us to social and financial ruin. I have not had one discussion about his 'race' and am always shocked and offended to see comments and main(lame)stream media articles suggesting we are racist. We are patriotic Americans we are being depicted as racist in order for the media to develop a topic of discussion is disgraceful.

Just Bill says:
Nope. Barry could have beamed down from the Starship Enterprise and it wouldn't have mattered. He's a Marxist who hates America as much as he loves himself. He's the most flagrant lawbreaker in the history of the Oval Office, making even Richard Nixon seem like a Boy Scout. He flaunts the Constitution, frequently violates it with impunity, prevents States from defending their borders, grants amnesty to illegal aliens to win their votes, launders money to unions by calling it "stimulus," involves us in even more wars than G.W. Bush did, pokes his finger in Israel's eye, props up the Muslim Brotherhood in country after country, spends the U.S. into the largest financial hole in our nation's history, constantly stirs up class/gender/religious warfare, and has jammed Obamacare down our throats, the last nail in America's coffin.

America -- including many Republicans -- voted for him. If that were not so, he wouldn't know have his keister parked in the Oval Office. But now even Democrats are afraid of the guy and his Marxist ideologies.

Next question?

Just Bill says:
Actually, Donald, there's no proof for your statement. In fact, just the opposite.

There has never been a President as radical as Obama. Never. He is a Marxist, hell-bent on transforming America into something straight out of the pages of the Communist Manifesto.

His color helped him get elected. His policies and radical agenda are what make him detestable now -- even to Democrats and Independents.

Obama is way ahead of Romney in the latest Pew poll. Race or not, whatever the Republicans are offering (and I haven't seen their proposed healthcare reform plan - have they got one?) isn't working to get votes.

Romney was a poor choice, IMO. His campaign is struggling with their messaging.

Faye Raye says:
Moronic. When will you race obsessed loons end your incessant campaign to smear anyone who disagrees with the Left as somehow 'evil', 'racist', or some other kind of monster? When will you debate actual issues? People like you have no curiosity about ideas that differ with your own - you slavishly obey an insipid ideology without ever dreaming of summoning an independent thought or questioning authority.

We also disagree with Left wingers of all other skin shades and backgrounds - how do you explain that? Posts like your have cropped up in the most unusual places across the web - it can only be part of the Left's devotion to vilifying its opposition and distracting people from their blunders and deceit. Which branch of 'Obama for America' do you hail from? Here's the Bottom Line: We don't care what Obama's ethnicity is - YOU DO. And race only matters to racists.

Grow up.

I do not care about being called racist. It means nothing anymore. That word has been so watered down and meaningless in our society that being called 'doofus' by a 7 year old boy is more effective at this point.

K. Bodkin please how does he lead us to financial ruin? Did not Bush do that ? or have you forgotten, oh yeah it was so long ago 2008. When He left the economy was in shamble, the treasury was empty, the deficit which was left under control by clinton went Haywire. From surplus , He added 10 trillions to the national debt and emptied the federal reserve with his tax cut for the rich ( actually the middle class tax has increased under him) and , bail out to banks wars ( which did not profit the average man but halliburton) which cost the taxpayer trillions but what did the taxpayer get back for his investment : Higher gas, higher food prices , recession almost a depression, an empty treasury.

Please do not have a short memory and accuse Obama for this mess. You know very well who controlled the presindency and congress when the economy was brought down. The laws were relaxed so the bank could lend to anybody . That is under republican watch . all of it.

Having said that . Have you noticed one thing . In 1929, the depression happened under republican watch. Hoover did nothing and it worsened. Roosvelt and WWII fixed republican mess but it took years . Have you overspent ( it takes more than twice your income to meet your minimum expenses) or tried to pay all down including your mortgage and I mean all down to be financially healthy. Well it won't happen overnight. It takes years and years. Obviously you have not or you will realize the republican mess will take more than 4 years to fix and to replenish the treasury. Another example of a republican mess fixed by democrats. Late 80's , early 90's recession created after 10 years of republican rules fixed by clinton a democrat not overnight.

Please sharpen your memory, remember history lessons before you accuse. The GOP created the mess that Obama is tried to fix and that us regular people are paying for, not the very rich and corporations who do NOT pay taxes.

Then Let's use some logic . If republicans ruin the treasury and the economy do you think more years with the GOP will restore us to health? ?? If you believe that then you will be surprised ( but I won't) when if republicans are elected in 4 years we will have not a major recession but a robust depression . The treasury already empty will be emptied further by taking on more debt to pay for their policies. Me , you, mr and mrs everybody not the megarich GOP will suffer. Mark my words or read my lips, HISTORY DOES NOT LIE

Posted on Aug 24, 2012 5:30:22 AM PDT
oh by the way the GOP is racist. Attacks all minorities one by one in turn, hates women ( as shown by the fact they just passed a law to redefine rape to women's disadvantage, gays, young people ( tried to restrict their right to vote), seniors ( without medicare some will not get treatment , others will have to sell their house and use their life saving to pay for treatment to save their lives how just is that??? does spending trillions in useless wars and tax cuts for the rich instead of on our seniors better? not in my book . A life is worth more. And republicans are talking about vales, let me laugh. How moral is their desire to push senior to no medical help tell me. I tought the republicans were moral? But then again the GOP's parents and grand-parents will not be the one to lose but your, my , everybody else's grand-parents and us in the future. Remember , we do not stay eternally young.

Greg says:
his review is from: The Arrogance of Evil (Kindle Edition)
The ones with no wisdom and full of pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, sloth, and greed are the ones that possess this evil covetousness and vanity with a craving desire to consume more than they can acquire at the expense of the people, investors, poor, and needy. These are some of our leaders, bankers, CEOs and Wall Street leaders. They are a bunch of little thieves and cowards who are immoral, good for nothing, and self-gratifying, and who illustrate disgusting behaviors and wicked human passions.DOMESTIC FINANCIAL TERRORISTS. They are fixated on themselves and they operate with avarice, sadness, anger, and vanity. They are sloths. This is a very serious problem. A lot of people don't understand the seriousness of their sins towards the poor, the needy, the middle class, and the people that they hurt intentionally because of their selfishness and through their corruption. The devil's mind is locked and cannot escape corruption or greed until he exhausts every mean of distortion via the wicked to claim his victims. The wicked in power follow with misguided decisions and false evidence of his intelligence to falsely prove that his judgment is right every time. The ingredients of this false cocktail distort morality and deliver completely unsafe solutions.
I believe 100% in capitalism, but not in capitalism through corruption and greed
