What good is the sale when you jacked up all the prices???

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 11, 2009 7:12:48 PM PDT
It's NO GOOD! That's what I say!
I'll wait until I get to Best Buy this week or order from their online service.

Hi All,

OP here-unfortunately Amazon, as well as other retailers tend to raise prices before a sale. I have close to 400 Blus, and have been shopping online for 10+ years. I have seen this happen nearly every time-media sales are all about margin with qty sales. I simply way the total selection vs the average cost per disc against other retailers, at the time of the sale, to see if it is competitive. I have Prime and don't pay tax, so overall Amazon is the better bet vs other retailers where I have to drive to, have limited selection and pay tax. But as usual YMMV. Most movies are not worth owning, because of limited rewatch, so I just Netflix them.

Please continue to post if you see other sales. Have a great week, everyone!

My experience was somewhat different than Web Developer. I purchased the following on Aug 7:
Letters from Iwo Jima at $16.49
Quantum of Solace at $15.49
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly at $18.49

With B2G1F this cost $35 which divided by 3 comes out to < $12 per DVD which I thought a bargain. Perhaps one of the factors in Amazon's pricing scheme is demand.

Yes, what apparently happened here was that the sale page was posted, but then the "start" date of the sale was changed to 8/11. So some were able to get in on the B2G1 sale, with the old, non-raised prices. Enjoy your movies! The price you got is certainly not bad, for being able to choose from a larger selection.

That may explain why the price reduction didn't showup during checkout on Aug 7. I had to call Amazon Customer Service to get the discount applied to my account but they did.

Digital Babe: Do you know when Inetvideo updates their Blu-Ray collection? It doesn't seem to have changed for some time.

Hi All,

Inet has added some new arrival BD's. Enjoy!

Buy 2 BD's, get 2 free and 20% off-excludes pre-orders. Please see this thread-I've not used this, but others have reported that it is working, so I thought I'd pass it on.

Also (offers 1% off cash back at "Warner Bros"). I have used them for years, and like Fatwallet, etc, they send you quarterly payments via Paypal for your shopping. It all adds up if you buy a lot of items online, so give it a try. Feel free to tell them I sent you:) (;). If you're willing to post your e-mail address (please use sariena at hotmail dot com format, so your address is not "harvested" I can refer you and we both receive a bonus at Ebates. But rest assured, I am not recruiting-I just remembered that they had a referral and thought many people could benefit. Enjoy if you decide to take advantage of this WB sale.

Thanks for the heads up Digital Babe!! i went a little nuts and bought 42 movies (14 Blu Rays and 28 HD DVDs since i still have an HD player and many of them were around $2 EACH) since they were VERY VERY good prices. Be warned though...shipping is over $1 per disc BUT some of their prices are less than half of Amazon and some are not even available on Amazon right now so overall still a VERY good deal adn the 25% comes off automatically when You check out. They are a little slower to ship than Amazon i hear but i can't save money.

Thanks for the heads up.

Oh and digitalbabe I did end up buying a few blu box sets from deepdiscounts last 25% off sale. Im still waiting for the BSG blu boxset to come in. It was a brand new release I got for over 50% off =D Still a bit expencive but I couldnt say no with all the positive things Ive been hearing. Hope this hefty blind buy works out well in the end.

Animegod-sweet-I myself am looking to get the BSG set. I got roped in with my Season 1 on HD DVD-I am now an official "fraker"!:)

Have a great weekend everyone-stay tuned for more deals, and keep posting those you see, yourself!

Hey Everyone,

Amazon has some blu-ray movies for $10.99. Not a huge list but a way to pick something up for cheap. Here's the link:

Word on the web is that the Braveheart blu ray is awesome, but the Gladiator blu ray is less than spectacular, even about average. See Bill Hunt's blog at for more.

Be Kind. Rewind.
