Their prices seem to be high with maybe a buck or 2 savings over amazons prices AFTER using the coupon. Some items cant even touch amazons pricing even with the 25% coupon code.

But I never had good luck with Deepdisoucnt anyways. I have had them cancle orders on me and revoke coupon codes that were valid 1 min but the next they werent. Shipping takes forever. But I am sure there are a few people who might be interested. Also Digitalbabe posted a while ago that if you set up an account at bingcashback.com you can also get 4% cashback on deepdiscount. So with both cashback and the coupon it might work out well.

anyways happy hunting guys =P

Re: Deep Discount

I might pick up a couple standard def DVDs I've been meaning to buy but I agree that their blu-ray prices are way too high, even with the 25% discount. And there free shipping is slower than dirt. Their upgrade shipping is a joke as well. I once ordered over 20 items and paid the $8.95 for the 2nd Day Air shipping (I think it's more money now). Over 3/4 of the items I ordered were listed as in stock. They sent ONE DVD 2nd Day Air and the rest went media mail one day later. That's their catch (although I did complain and got my $8.95 back). The catch is that only the FIRST shipment goes the upgraded shipping speed, the rest of your order goes media mail. Still, all the items that were stated in stock should have been shipped the upgraded speed. Since then I have been left with a bitter taste in my mouth regarding them. Still though, they have a couple Standard def DVDs that I can wait a month to watch so I might still take advantage of this deal somewhat since they will be dirt cheap with the discount.

I would still recommend Amazon Prime over Deep Discount. It is the much better deal in the long run ($79 for one year) since the prices are always low on a consistant basis (all you need to do is be patient, if a blu has been low and then been raised, it will be low again) and two day free shipping on all CDs and DVDs that they stock. I am a music junkie too so my benefits are two-fold with Amazon Prime...

Hi Zombie, yes shipping is slow. However, for most sets they can't be beat. And unless you have Prime, which I do, it is rare that you can pick up any 1 dvd with free shipping anywhere else. Their standard BD prices are not good, but across the board for other items, they beat Amazon and other stores, hands down when they have this sale. Example BSG $219 without 25% coupon, plus 4% cash back (29% off total). I think it all depends what you're looking for. I never pay for upgraded shipping, because I have 1600+ movies and sets to watch, so there's no hurry:)

Actually the whole code valid one minute and then not another, was them testing their system. Granted, they should have used different codes from last year, but people tried to slip orders in, when the sale was not live. During this sale, most people drop a couple hundred, or couple grand, and there 1000's of people shop. It's the bi-annual sale that includes their entire inventory, so even Amazon cannot compete price-wise on most items. People that are seasoned shoppers even build whole wish lists in advance:P But if it doesn't work for you and Zombie I am sure there will other BD specific sales down the pike:)

@Digital Babe,

I understand where you are coming from. Like I said, for standard def titles you can really find great deals. I do have a couple I am looking for and don't want to pay the $12 to $14.99 that Best Buy and Amazon charge. Anyway, here is another code for Deep Discount: 'JULY9' . I know once you use a code you cannot order again using the same one (unless you are married and/or have more than one e-mail address). At least with additional codes if you forget something or want more than 3 items of the same thing (certain items are restricted to limited quantities), the additional codes help. Oh for this code, the sale is good from 07/17/2009 to 08/02/2009....

so lets say I ordered today and a few weeks from now before the sale ends if I wanted to order again I can NOT use the same code?

Some codes can be used more than once. Check dvdtalk for all current codes for Deepdiscount. I have placed numerous orders in the past during the sale period and just either used my code more than once, or just another code published-there's a whole slew of codes.

Hey Zombie,

Yeah, the sale at DD has worked the best for sets, even BD (Fringe for instance is $47 or so, but with code substantially cheaper than Amazon), or single items that are more expensive than at other stores.

One time about a year and a half ago I put a bunch of items in the DD cart and punched in the code I had to see what the discount would be. I didn't buy anything at that time, came back three days later and when I went to checkout, the site told me that I already used the code and it was only good once. Now maybe that has changed but I just set up another account with a different e-mail address and got the code to work that way...

@Zombie, DD usually has a dozen codes for its sale. Insteading of setting up a duplicate account to use the same code a second time, you could have just used any of the other codes.

Thanks for starting this thread, digitalbabe. I was looking for a central source where I can find Blu-Ray movies on sale. Just yesterday I bought Quantum of Solace at Target for 30 bucks only to look on Amazon today to see that they have it for 15. GRR... I hate that. Can't return it because it's opened. You know what they really need? An app for the iPhone where you can select the movies you are interested in and your iPhone will beep whenever it goes on sale somewhere. Call it Blu-Ray tracker. Put it on the iTunes store for .99 heck, even 4.99. If I had such an app, it would have paid for itself 3 times over just on the purchase of QoS alone. Anyways, sorry about my rant. I have tagged this discussion thread to send me an e-mail so I can keep current on what Blu-Ray movies are on sale. Thanks!

Hey J. Evans-you're welcome! Read through the posts for some good tips & sites-there are many, and worth your time. Happy bargain hunting and remember to come by and post your own "finds"!:)

@J Evans,

You can always purchase the Quantum of Solace from Amazon and return the unopened one to Target if you still have your receipt. I don't like to do that but have done so in the past when I have done the same thing, bought something for a high price then realized I could have got it for much less elsewhere. Just a thought for you if it's not too much of a hassle...

Thanks Zombie, but it's already opened & watched. If I remember correctly, unopened (factory sealed) means you can get your cash back and opened means they will issue you store credit, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I'm brand new to the Blu-Ray world (just got my first HD TV and player no more than 3 weeks ago. It is AWESOME! I don't know why I held out for so long. The people here on the Amazon Blu-Ray forum seem nice and very helpful so far.

Oops, I just re-read your post & got what you were saying. I may do that because 15 bucks is 15 bucks. I wouldn't go through the hassle if it was 2 or 3 dollars but 15 bucks is another Blu-Ray movie!

@J Evans,

Welcome to the high def world. I was blown away watching football on my HDTV which is what turned me into the high def junkie I am now...

I am glad you understood what I am saying. Yeah, $2, $3 or even $5 isn't worth the time but $15 would be worth it to do so. Something that I know for sure me and Digital Babe has learned (and I am sure many other people as well) is if there is a brand new release that you do not need to see right away, if you have patience and can wait, the price drop will drop at some point, whether it's at Best Buy, Target or on Amazon. I used to get suckered in to paying $25 for new releases and now, unless it's something I am dying to see, I just wait. I mean, Taken has been out about what, one month, and now it's $15 at Best Buy...

New blu rays:

17 again
Hannibal Rising
Blade 2
Blade Trinity

Free shipping will most likely be the 3rd or 4th week of August.

Prices on games reduced this week, much like last week on CDs for 2$.

>> You know what they really need? An app for the iPhone where you can select the movies you are interested in and your iPhone will beep whenever it goes on sale somewhere. Call it Blu-Ray tracker.

J. Evans, Amazon usually (not always) lowers price to match sales from other vendors. A good way to keep track of this is to add every movie you want onto your saved shopping cart on Amazon (you don't have to buy it yet!). Then, all you have to do is check your shopping cart once every couple of days and it will tell you if anything in your cart has increased or decreased in price.

What I usually do is decide how much I would be willing to buy a movie for. For example, I made up my mind that I wanted Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace for under $15 each. When Caisno Royale dropped to $13, I picked that up. QoS never quite hit $15, but I was satisfied with the $15.49 price. It takes a bit of patience, but remember these prices fluctuate all the time.

Does anyone know if Blade 2 has any special features on inet.video, because I can't find it on bluray.com or HiDefDigest?

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 5, 2009 1:48:53 PM PDT
@W Powell,

Odds are on if it's on Alliance, then it will not have any special features. Every other Alliance title that has only been released in Canada have no special features. Alliance titles that were released simultaneously with the U.S. versions usually have identical special features. My guess is that it does not...
