If you order it soon enough, and now is plenty soon for a 6/5 release date BD movie/whatever, they actually receive stock before the release date and can ship it so you do get it on the release date. [Rarely, a day before the release date.]

There are rare exceptions, such as if the movie turns out to be much more popular than they thought. [This is why the offer may not be available just a few days before the release date, e.g.] Also, if a truck shipment filled with pre-ordered BD movies [e.g.] gets in a wreck and the product is spoiled, that can throw a boot into the gears.

Most of the time when they promise receipt on the release date, you actually do get it that day. If you do not, you can call Amazon's customer service, and they might give you free shipping or something else. This may be a partial refund for the shipping costs, or a credit good on a future purchase, e.g.

Thank you so much, I just wanted to ask if someone on here might know for sure, I called Amazon's cs yesterday and they said they could not ship an item before the release date, although when you view this item it says would you like to receive this the day it comes out. Thanks Again

I just now got a book I had pre-ordered some time ago with the release date guarantee, and it is here on the release date, ~ 1PM local time. Per the tracking it was clearly shipped in advance to arrive on time per the guarantee.

Sometimes, they time shipping so that you get it on the release date, but I've read cases where that doesn't necessarily work out (maybe the carrier's fault).

Prime works great for me. I get the discs on release day 100% of the time. Sometimes they ship it late (day before) and it STILL gets to me on time. Twice the delivery company got it to me at 10 or 11 at night (On Track - they use a small unmarked white van - say they're overbooked. I'm not complaining) Fed Ex and UPS always deliver between noon and 8. I usually get 1 to 4 discs per week. Sometimes I get tools and even appliances and love the prime 2 day service. I'm sure it pays for itself in a few weeks for me. I almost always preorder discs - sometimes months in advance. The in stock discs I order on the weekend get to me Wednesday.
