Who is "any_book" seller?

I would venture to guess that any_book doesn't have any books in stock. I would further guess that when Any_book receives an order, then they order or try to order the book from some other source. Maybe that's why they often cancel orders. It also explains the high prices. Pretty slick! They have (in theory) every book, yet very little inventory.

I believe that Mark is (at least essentially) correct. I had a situation where I thought that had happened, 'though I can't remember if it was Any-Book. And, there are others (it's always the same few) with these ridiculous prices. I don't see how it's illegal to offer to sell at whatever price you want. The point is, don't buy it.

i just sold a rare book to any_book. they claimed it was "a mess", but it was brand new. i accepted a return even though i knew what i had sent them. got it back in a damaged condition. now i think they might have switched copies-put another copy into my dustjacket. i cannot prove this, but i know the copy i sent them was new and perfect. come on amazon take care of this problem. this is the only trouble i have ever had with your site.

Any_book is a thief! You should not let them steal your original book.

Any_book repeatedly broke the law when they dealt with me. And if I can find out what their legal address is I will file criminal charges against them. Amazon is obviously in on this criminal activity because Amazon customer service has refused to provide me with the info needed to bring charges against any_book. Amazon is therefore a co-conspirator in any_book's illegal activity. If yoo can help us with contact info for any_book please post it here so that those of us who will not take this criminal behavior lying down can press charges in the appropriatre courts.

I strongly encourage you to call Amazon customer service and insist on speaking with a SUPERVISOR to get this information. Any info you can share with us about any_book contact info will be helpful as I will probably initiate legal proceedings against any-book once I locate them. There may also be basis for a class action law suit.

Finally,'s filings with the Security and Exchange Commission are public information and can be viewed and/or obtained here

Amazons most recent 10-Q filing with the Security and Exchange Commission lists the address of their Principal Executive Offices as
410 Terry Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98109-5210 and phone as (206) 266-1000

NOTE THAT the most recent 10-Q filing with the SEC also states that

"We Could Be Liable for Fraudulent or Unlawful Activities of Sellers
The law relating to the liability of providers of online payment services is currently unsettled. In addition, governmental agencies could require changes in the way this business is conducted. Under our seller programs, we may be unable to prevent sellers from collecting payments, fraudulently or otherwise, when buyers never receive the products they ordered or when the products received are materially different from the sellers' descriptions. Under our A2Z Guarantee, we reimburse buyers for payments up to certain limits in these situations, and as our marketplace seller sales grow, the cost of this program will increase and could negatively affect our operating results. We also may be unable to prevent sellers on our sites or through other seller sites from selling unlawful goods, from selling goods in an unlawful manner, or violating the proprietary rights of others, and could face civil or criminal liability for unlawful activities by our sellers. "

apologies to all involved, but i did not sell to any_book directly. i have reason to believe that i sold to an "affiliate" of theirs. no conclusive proof, just circumstantial. does anyone know if any_book ever purchases in their own name? am working on this. the layers of secrecy are very difficult to pierce.

William Carr says:
I've been reading the Feedback scores for any_book.

Down to 95% now.

I regularly scan for prices when I list a new item, and any_book is regularly at the top of the Nosebleed price list, just under the Outright Lunatics.

( As an aside: what's up with charging $1,000 for a kid's book with a dozen priced under $4.00 ?)

I have counted six times recently where people received books marked "New" that were ex-library, dirty, or torn. And twice people getting the wrong edition, as well as numerous "never received" postings.

The current negative feedback rating for this seller is 4% over the last thirty days !

I understand being anxious to make a sale, but... pretty soon any_book will have to quit and start over with a new business name.

If they are in Florida you should be able to find them via their DBA name which, in Florida anyway, should be registered at the state level. I couldn't find them, which suggests to me that they are either not in Florida, are not registered as business (Amazon do not require you to be a legal business owner, even with a merchant account), or are not known on Amazon by their real business name.

I think you're entirely correct there Mark.

Yep, Joe Waynick explains some of these tactics in his books. I would mark the inside of the book in a number of locations and take pictures for your records. This would at least help you identify your book.

I wrote a book, Data Modeling for Information Professionals. It is sold out, and out of print since about 1998. I was surprised to see "new" copies available from any_book. If it is a NEW sale, I am due a royalty. This is probably never going to happen since they are asking 10x from what other "like new" sellers are asking. Even my mother wouldn't pay that! These guys are up to no good. Are you listening Amazon?

I was interested in finding out if "any_book" had a physical storefront in Florida where I could go take a look at the book I need. For what it's worth, here is what I found out about who is behind the handle:

Bruce Sardinia
Book Warehouse, Inc. and/or Southern Book Services
4360 NW 135th St
Opa Locka, FL 33054

Thanks. How do you know that Book Warehouse, Inc. and/or Southern Book Services is the company dba Anybook? I did not find any companies named anybbo listed in Florida Secretary of State's database. Nor did I find anything listed to a Bruce Sarinia. Check out

They are nothing more then a scam. I bought a book from them here, was charged for it then was told it was canceled and they they did not charge me, even though I sent them a copy of my credit card showing the charge. 2 weeks later they had 3 copies of the same book at double the price for sale. I sent them an email asking them about the new copies that appeared, they shortly disappeared and said that they didn't have any for sale. They also sent me an email saying they would work work with me ONLY if I deleted the negative comment. I complained to about them and were told they would look into it. Yea, right....................

Gary says:
Yes Viking they played that delete the negative comment BS game with me too. Anybook are fraudulent criminals. And like you, I'm not going to let them get away with it.

Hopefully as this thread stays alive and grows, others who might consider dealing with any_book will be more likely to be informed of their workings. I certainly wish I had sought out more info on them before my dealings with them.

I ordered what was being offered as a new copy of a textbook and instead received a heavily damaged copy of the book that had multiple stampings and stickers on it showing it was clearly used. When I tried to resolve this with them, they refused to admit to if they could provide a new copy of the book or not and just kept offering to refund part of my purchase price (20% and then 30%) to compensate. I have gone on to escalate this with Amazon Customer Service.

Now that I have had time to do research on them, it amazes me that they can continue to do business here and that there hasn't been a great enough backlash from customers and other resellers for them to be removed. I am certainly hesitant to consider purchases from the reseller market at this point without increased work on my part and the seller's to confirm details on the real product being sold.

@Jonathan while I am delighted you've added your story, and while I wish you luck a dollar gets you ten that Amazon Customer Service has no interest in taking serious action against anybook. I will NEVER spend money again with either Amazon or Anybook because Amazon Customer Service refused to take effective action and appropriately advocate for an abused customer. If I ever get sufficent complaints to bring a class action law suit against anybook I will most certainly sue Amazon as a co-defendant. Let us know how you make out! Thanks

Yes any_book has been paid within 3days of placing it and said my order has been shipped but it has been 14 days since it was ship and now they say it is going to be another week. Amazon says my account is not charged until the Item is shipped. I can not figure out how it can take 21 days to travel to my address when the place it was shipped is only 10 hours by car.

momofidtwins says:
They simply have developed a program that allows them to sell books on Amazon at an inflated price, then once they sell the book at the inflated price they seek out the book at a much cheaper price on another venue. If the book is not available, or does not meet their spread requirements then they simply cancel the order.

I just noticed this "any_book" seller today. Our books normally go for around $15 to $25 (trade paperback) and $9.99 (kindle).

But "any_book" is charging $143 to $158. It's insane. My concern is that he's created a new entry for a third edition of our books called "Unknown Binding." That is highly suspect and may lead the buyer to believe he's buying a special edition.

Anyway, a search brought me to your discussion, then I began my investigation based on everyone's comments here.

1. "any_book" has a website:

2. The Whois data for points to owner and admin. BRUCE SARDINIA, 4360 NW 135 ST., OPA-LOCKA, Florida 33054. Email: bsardinia [at] Ph: (305) 502-5110

3. According to the Florida Secretary of State, BRUCE SARDINIA owns the corporation BOOK WAREHOUSE, INC. and 4360 BUILDING, LLC. (among others).

4. A search on the Miami-Dade property tax website (search for owner by last name, then first name) provides three addresses: one is a 40 sq. ft warehouse matching the addresses for BOOK WAREHOUSE, INC. and 4360 BUILDING, LLC.. Another matches his corporate address for WORLDWIDE MEDIA GROUP CORPORATION. The third appears to be a residential address. You'll have to look that one up yourself.

And that's that. Good luck folks.

look in the economics forum

one book went for millions

Amazon's $23,698,655.93 book about flies

The book did not actually SELL for $23M. Do your research.

The comment left on the Amazon book page was a jest (note, it was not a Verified Purchase).
