Just wondering...people talk about the "Dream Cast" of Les Miz, being the 10th Anniversary Concert. If you could make your dream cast of members from any of the major recordings (10th Anniversary Concert, 25th Anniversary CD, 25th Anniversary DVD, OBC, OLC, Complete Symphonic Recording, etc.) who would you choose? Can be from any point in time (i.e. Colm is still eligible!) Also, what's your favorite over-all cast?

Mine:
Jean Valjean: Colm Wilkonson (OBC, OLC, TAC)
Javert: Philip Quast (CSR, TAC) or Norm Lewis (25th DVD)
Fantine: Lea Salonga (25th DVD)
Eponine: Samantha Barks (25 DVD, upcoming movie!)
Marius: Michael Ball (hands down). (OLR, CSR)
Cosette: ?
Thenardier: whoever does the Complete Symphonic Recording
Mme. Thenardier: whoever does the 25th Anniversary DVD

Other characters?

Favorite overall cast: 25th Anniversary DVD

Well, Colm, Lea (as Eponine) and Michael would most certainly be only my list. (I still have a soft spot for LuPone as the original Fantine. I know she's probably not a popular choice.) As for the other roles (the Thenardiers for example) I have seen so many production (touring, local, even student) productions where the performances have been top-notch and IMO, every bit as as good as some of the original, well-known, or recorded cast members - so for those roles it's hard to say. Javert would be my most difficult choice, as I've seen some powerful actors in that role. It's an interesting topic, especially with the big-budget, high-profile movie version in thew works. (Let's hope it's a bit more "on point" that the ill-fated movie version of "Phantom.") Though I have nothing personally against Taylor Swift, I was thrilled when Samantha Barks was cast as Eponine. And I think Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen should be fabulous as the Thenardiers.) Sorry to have strayed off topic...

I definitely agree with you about Javert...to me, he's the most fascinating character, and there are so many different takes on him, many of which are top-notch. I'm a little worried/confused by the whole Russel Crowe thing.

Haven't seen him on stage, but what about Alfie Boe at Valjean? He has the voice.

As long as Colm Wilkinson is Valjean, and Terrence Mann is Javert, I'm happy.

Even though there have been many terrrific albums of it, no one in the original London cast has ever been beat, IMO, and that's still my favorite recording.

Colm is too old to play Valjean, that's why he played the Bishop in the film. Since the show is opening on Broadway next spring (for the third time) I wonder who'll they will cast. Probably no one from the new movie.
