Hey there. I've read a lot of great reviews about a lot of camera - but one thing I've been finding - that when a camera zooms in and out - there is a buzz on the playback. My camera that I had (that just broke) didn't do that (canon 870is). Does anyone have a suggestion?

Use a real video camera instead of a still camera with a video mode.

At the very least, the microphones would be further away from the zoom mechanism (most video cameras use internal zoom -- the end of the lens doesn't move in/out). [Though check the model out -- my deceased Optura 20 had the menu select rocker switch located up front near the microphones; so one had handling noise when using the switch to adjust exposure compensation. The Optura 40 moved that switch to the back next to the battery]

If you're worried about sound quality then you probably want an external mic -- e.g. something like Rode VideoMic Directional Video Condenser Microphone w/Mount. Using a mic that isn't inside the camera body helps a lot. But this would require a camera with a mic-in jack... probably not very many point & shoots have mic-in jacks.
