Why the heck is it so hard to find a device that you plug into your car that you can press a button to have it start tracking miles driven? I don't need photo tagging, I don't need navigation - I just want to track miles. Any suggestions???

There are a few "vehicle management" and "tracking" products out there. Most are aimed at geofensing and tracking your car if it's stolen (or your teenager has gone off the reservation). But, some may have the feature you are looking for.

For Example:
LandAirSea GPS Tracker: LandAirSea GPS Tracking Key Pro
Guard Dog GPS: Guard Dog GPS GD-AT100 AutoTrac Superior GPS Tracker
Audiovox Car Connection. Audiovox Car Connection Plug-N-Play On-Board Diagnostic Device (OBD)

Car Connection is pretty cool. According to them "Car Connection is a revolutionary Telematic device, that will provide you the ability to monitor, manage, and maintain your vehicle's health, driving habits, location, and even restrict cell phone use in one integrated plug-n-play On-board diagnostic (OBDII) device." The OBDII plug in means it should be an easy installation. BUT FIRST, check out for more details. After you buy it, you have to activate the unit ($19.95) plus sign up for a monthly plan. That gives you access to an app and online profile to track all kinds of information from diagnostics, recalled items, driving habits, and (as you would like) where you drove.

Most other products don't require a service plan though. So, if all you want is tracking miles, then going with something similar to the first couple product would serve you better and more cost effectively.

Hope this helps.
