How do I add a line to a pre-existing AT&T family plan when ordering the phone in Amazon? It seems like I can only set up a new contract...

I called Amazon today and they told me that they don't do that. Bummer, because I wanted to do the exact same thing.

I can't speak for AT&T, but I called T-mobile about doing this because I wanted the deal Amazon was giving on the phone I wanted to add. They just said to order it as a new plan, and they'd sort it out on their end after I got the phone. So that's what I did, and T-mo helped me out. Maybe AT&T would do the same.

Can I start a new family plan with AT

Yes you can add a line when ordering a phone from Amazon.
Just state that you already have an account and go through the steps. I added 2 lines for my kids back in August 2008 - so it is possible.

HOW did you accomplish this? Here is the information form the AMAZON help page:

Amazon.com offers cell phone upgrades only for current customers of AT&T. To upgrade your AT&T cell phone, you must also purchase a 2-year contract extension. Your contract extension begins the day after your existing contract ends, or if it has ended, your new contract begins at purchase. Your current AT&T cell phone number will move to your new upgraded device when you activate your new phone.

- AT&T cell phone upgrades are only available on single-line accounts, and are not available on phones that are part of a family plan.

- You must have already had your single-line 1-year-contract for 10 months, or your 2-year-contract for 22 months.

- Your AT&T account must be in good financial standing and without late fees.

If you don't meet the above eligibility requirements, your order will be canceled.
