I'm looking for book suggestions to help prepare my 2 year old for a household move to a different state.

I'm a nanny, and when the family I work for moved (though only across town), their oldest child was 2 1/2. He liked The Berenstain Bears' Moving Day. Also, the Usborne First Experiences books are good, and they have one called Moving House.

For children this age, I like GOODBYE, HOUSE by Frank Asch and MOVING by Fred Rogers - both are simple, gentle, and age-appropriate.

I hope this helps.

Thank you to Amelia, Jacqueline and Lisa for thier suggestions - I will certainly be investigating these. Anyone else have a book(s) to recommend?

Thanks, Cindy

I agree that the Usborne books are cute and fun. "Moving House", "Mouse Moves House", are super. "First Experiences is a combination of several stories which also includes "Moving House". This will prepare your 2 year old for all the other news in her life, going to a party, going on a plane, going to the dentist, going to the doctor, going to school, etc. It's a great value. Children love hearing about the day in the life of a doctor or hearing about what will happen when they go to school. It's nice to be prepared so that they understand that it is not scary, but nice, usual and lots of fun and different things to do.

We moved when one of my children was 2. Before we moved, he received "Periwinkle Moves In" as a present, and we read it over and over again. It's a simple Blue's Clues board book, but the biggest attraction for my son was that the kitten Periwinkle, who had to pack up his stuff and move, ended up moving into the house next to Blue. My son liked the emphasis on the new friends in the new place.
