Can We Please Start Making A Distinction That Christian Rap is NOT Hip Hop?

Rap is a music genre. Hip Hop is a sub-culture, and let KRS-One have his way, a religion. First let me say I am a huge fan of Christian Rap, but when it's referred to as Holy Hip Hop etc I have an issue with that, for the above reason. What I am saying I guess is further broken down here http://exministries.com/messagetocr.html

Let me also say that I do not work for G Craig Lewis or anything of the sort, but I feel this distinction needs to be made if spreading the good news about Jesus Christ through Christian Rap is to increase. Many people think that ALL Rap is bad, but we who listen to artists such as Ambassador and Flame (to name a few) know better. Your thoughts?

I'll admit I've only recently begun exploring the "Holy Hip Hop" genre so I'm not familiar with the culture or controversy. Tried reading the link you provided but it was kind of hard to see (colors too dark). It sounds like the same sort of issue some church people had with the idea of "Christian Rock" when it first came up in the 70s.
Lecrae has said in interviews that he and other Christian rappers grew up in hip hop and want to use their music to reach out to that culture rather than only to the Church. And there are reports of people coming to Christ thru that ministry. Similar controversy as "Christian Rock" IMO.

It probably is the same controversy, we have to distinguish the music from the culture definitely, in both cases. I have listened to a little Christian Rock also, but I definitely liked what I heard.

Rap music is definiftely a huge part of Hip Hop, but the two are not one in the same. I will post a few links later to clarify.

KRS one also said "Rap is something you do, hip hop is something you live".
