seven,
You are too funny.

If I put a name, I'm sure you'll accuse me of condoning homosexuality and what about all those people who say it's a sin and... I'll get called a hypocrite and so forth.

If I say I don't listen to any, you'll accuse me of... what? Hating homosexual people? This I'm not sure of.

I will say that I only know of 2 and don't care for either of them, as artists, meaning I don't like their music. As far as the homosexuality... I think whatever answer I give will be wrong to you so I'll put this:

1 Corinthians 6:9-10
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God?

1 John 1:8
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

So, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 lists sins that, if indulged in continuously, identify a person as not being redeemed-not being a Christian. So are there really homosexual Christian musicians? I can't say no for sure, because we all (meaning Christians) struggle with something. Those who struggle against homosexuality (or idolatry, or alcoholism, or anything else in that list) are to fight against it. But those who perpetually and continually engage in those activities? Paul calls them "unrighteous."

Not being Christian or gay, homosexual Christian musicians isn't something that I know much about. I did however watch a mediocre documentary on the Transcendence Gospel Choir. They are the first ever entirely transgender choir.

I find people's struggles to reconcile who they are with the rigid and unnatural expectations of religion to be fascinating.

I have a couple of friends who are homosexual and Christian. I'm sure there are some who have a hard time reconciling who they are with their beliefs but my friends have been able to come up with an interpretation that suits them.

One of my friends is not only a homosexual Christian but also the leader of his Church choir. I guess he's my favorite homosexual Christian musician.

I've discussed religion with one of them and I've put forth my belief that atheism seems to be the most logical religious position. I grew up a Christian with him so I know how hard it is to overcome such ingrained beliefs.

but also the leader of his Church choir

Any choir boys there? Please be careful.

What you are insinuating is in poor taste but I don't know if he is involved with the children's choir or not.

I don't think homosexual Christian musician are words that go together.
The question should perhaps be: Who is your favorite homosexual who sings Christian music?

I know it's hard to believe but there are homosexual Christians. Homosexuals can reconcile their Christian belief with their sexuality.

seven,
I think most people can reconcile their "Christian belief" with any sin they want to do. What's important is: can they reconcile God's word with their "sexuality"?

Since "God's Word" is often vague and open to modern day interpretation that should be the easy. I'm sure that the hard part is dealing with fundamental Christianity.

I would respectfully disagree. There are several passages that explicitly say homosexuality is a sin.

What passages state that homosexuality is a sin?

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 22, 2011 9:53:36 AM PST
Well, the 1 Corinthians passage above.

Leviticus 18:22
Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.

Romans 1:26-27
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

There's 3. Some think Sodom and Gomorrah's destruction was due to the men being homosexual but there's still a huge debate about it.

Steve says:
I can assure you that anyone who chooses to be a homosexual; is NOT a christian. Singing christian does not make one a christian. Christianity comes only by accepting Jesus as your savior and maintaining a relationship with Him. Once you have done that, it will become clear that homosexuality is of the vilest and most immoral acts that one can commit.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 22, 2011 10:45:44 PM PST
Oh good grief. Did you know that homosexual men abuse children far, far, far less than heterosexual men? Did you know that as far as child molestation goes, your child would statistically be much safer with a homosexual man than a heterosexual man?

And yet we "protect" our children from homosexual men because.....why?

Grown men who molest young boys are not homosexual. Few would probably even ever be attracted to a grown man. They also often would just as soon molest a young girl as a young boy. They'll take what they can get, and it has nothing to do with homosexuality and everything to do with sexual perversion.

As a sociologist and researcher, I find your layman statistics to be inconclusive. When you start spouting off statistics like that you need to back it up with credible research material by scholars; just because you are saying it does not make it true. Back it up!!

Joshua
(...can they reconcile God's word with their "sexuality?")
The answer is simply no. I've had homosexual feelings all of my life. I'm in my fifties now. I became a born again christian at age 22. I have struggled with homosexual feelings since then. I have tried my best to come up with some scripture from the Bible that says homosexual is acceptable. There isn't one. But I don't think anybody can judge. The commandment "Honor thy father and thy mother..." is taught with so many conditions and stuff nowadays until God should have added the word "if" to the end of it. "If your parents read you bed time stories, If your parents spent the proper time with you, if your parents were a spiritual example. My question is if this commandment has so many conditions why can't the commandment against homosexuality have conditions also?"

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 24, 2011 8:57:52 AM PST
Bill,
I think you hit an interesting note there. The commandment is "Honor your Father and Mother." End of story. Even if your father was Charles Manson and your mother was Bonnie Parker, you should honor them. The conditions that have been placed on them are from man.

As to the other part Bill, it seems like you have tried to justify your homosexual feelings with Scripture and been unsuccessful. I'm sorry that this is a burden you have carried.

I personally have temptations that I have tried to justify in the past as well. But, God calls us to be justified through Him, not through our twisting of the scriptures. So again, the problem becomes, do we follow the commandment as it is written, or as we add conditions to it?

Bill, please don't think I am judging or condemning you. I don't understand this struggle as I have not gone through it. However, I have my own temptations and I know that if we choose righteousness over fleshly desires, things in our life change dramatically. I recently decided to pursue God with everything I have to even give up those secret sins that I occasionally visit.

As soon as I made this decision, temptation hit hard, and I failed. But I asked God to help me and I'm running the race and fighting the good fight again!
