Will there be SEX in Heaven?

Think about this before you answer. We know Heaven contains the most beautiful ELEMENTS on earth: gates of pearl, streets of gold, and walls made of precious stones. Could the same analogy be made with the most beautiful RELATIONS between a man and a woman. I certainly think the darker elements of sex (exploitation, abuse, deception, possessiveness, compulsion) won't be encouraged but what about the highest and best elements of sex? will there be a type of communion in heaven so wonderful that it will make even the most satisfying sexual experience on earth seem completely inadequate? the bible seems to be silent on this issue. if we could somehow know, it would be easier for the Christian to behave himself or herself.

The material on this topic is ENORMOUS. So I guess you are kidding.

J.Espresso says:
Would you scream out "Oh God!" during the in-heaven orgasm? Do you think this would upset the great deity? If you could have sex in heaven, could you impregnate your partner? Does VD exist in heaven? What about homosexuality?

Does God himself have sex? With whom? Is God heterosexual or homosexual?

These are the great eternal questions of our times.

It's my understanding that most of Christiandom assumes no marriage in Heaven, that everyone will be Angels. (do to misinterpretation of Matt 22)

The one exception I am aware of is the LDS. The LDS are only ones I know of who will be married when the arrive in Heaven.

If God requires marriage for earthly procreation, then it follows, without marriage in Heaven there will be no heavenly procreation.

Yours in Christ, Brother Niv

To certain minds, yes, they are the best questions they can muster.

Truth says:
Unfortunatly there will be no marriage, and therefore no sex in heaven. There will be those who will say that there will be marriage in heaven but it is not true. Do a concordance search of the word 'marriage' in the NT and see the clear teaching.

Kevin, I agree.

And that is the teaching (among others) of the Song of Songs, which uses one of our highest experiences to analogize to something even better...But a non-Catholic is given an interpretation of Song of Songs and they must adhere to it or else.

Probably, but it is a quibble over words. WIll there be eating in Heaven. You could say 'Yes' or "No' depending on how you take the word. There is the eternal banquet but we will have glorified bodies and no need of sustenance. Plus there is the Eucharist as divine food.

Sex as the full awareness of another being. Yes, and many saints have said so, and at least one said explicitly that this was better than sexual knowledge. Sex is already something laden with deeper meanings and analogies to other things and promise of something more.

IFF: Why wait? The kingdom of heaven is within. (And yes, the ecstasy of God communion exceeds the pleasure of orgasm.)

Brother Niv,

"The one exception I am aware of is in the LDS. The LDS are only ones I know of who will be married when they arrive in Heaven." LOL!

You better talk to the Muslim men, who together with the Mormons, can't imagine being truly happy and fulfilled in Heaven with God alone as their love and friendship, but they have to continue sleeping with their honeys.

By the way, who told the Muslim men they will continue to sleep with their wives in Heaven? God? Who told the Mormons? God?

Sex only brought forth flesh besides the pleasure.

The flesh was necessary to house the soul inside of while here,

I call it our earthly spacesuit.

If you missed it, we can't create souls, just flesh, only the Father can Create souls.

Only the Father will bring forth new souls if He feels the need in the next age to come.

But I do think there will be some sort of pleasure between people

There will be the "marriage feast of the Lamb" in Heaven. The Church (the bride) will be in total communion with Jesus (the bridegroom). The marriage relationship of man and woman on earth is meant to reflect the love between Christ and His Church. Sex is the fullest expression of the total self gift of man to woman and woman to man. In the sexual act, the couple express through their bodies their total, free, exclusive and fruitful commitment to each other. In this way they represent Christ's love for the Church (it is sacramental).

There is NO SEX IN HEAVEN. there is no gender, (male or female) there is no reason to procreate.
Luke 20:28: Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
29: There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
30: And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
31: And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
32: Last of all the woman died also.
33: Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
34: And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35: But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead,
36: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; (they are not Male or Female, no sex organs) and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
37: Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

Mat.22: 30: For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

Mark 12:24: And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
25: For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

Lee Freeman says:
I don't believe the predominant view among most Christians of disembodied souls "going to heaven" is accurate. It is certainly not what the Bible or the earliest Christians teaches/taught.

In I Corinthians 15 Paul speaks of our resurrected bodies being like Christ's, which was physical, though somehow "glorified." Paul reiterates this point in Romans 8-that our physical bodies will be redeemed and not just our "souls." This jives with ancient 2nd Temple Judaism, which expected a bodily resurrection on a renewed/recreated/redeemed earth when God's kingdom was fully and finally inaugurated. Jews made no distinction between body and soul-that was a Greek Platonic distinction, that your immortal "psyche," or soul, was the "real" you, while your body was disposable, a distinction which the Gnostics took and ran with. In Gnostic theology anything physical, the earth, trees, mountains, human bodies, sexuality and procreation-was bad. The Gnostic hope was to escape from the physical prison of earthly existence, freeing your spirit from its physical body. Kind of like the ascension of the Ancients in "Stargate: SG-1" and "Atlantis." Jews and early Christians didn't think this way; to them the human body and the physical world were essentially good and YHWH intended to save both of them. Thus, Peter speaks of a "new heavens and new earth."

God created humans. God created sex primarily as the way humans procreate, though also as a method of physical/spiritual intimacy between a husband and wife. When Jesus says marriage will not exist in heaven, I think his point was that marriage for the sake of procreation will no longer be necessary. But when Jesus says they are like the angels, I don't believe this should be interpreted literally to mean we'll be transformed into spirit-beings like the angels. Remember-Jesus was BODILY resurrected-his body could be seen and touched, and ate food, and obviously retained its male characteristics. He was still the MAN Jesus, albeit raised from the dead.

"Heaven" in this instance also shouldn't be interpreted literally as the supernatural realm where God lives, but the way Jesus refers to it it refers to God's kingdom on earth-because Jesus taught that God's kingdom was on earth; Revelation pictures Jesus coming to earth to dwell with mortals. God created humans and human sexuality, and Paul is clear that our physical bodies will be redeemed. So. Will there be sexual intimacy in the new heavens and new earth? I don't know. Maybe.

Randy Alcorn's book "Heaven" and NT Wright's book "Surprised by Hope" address these and related questions.

f2c says:
I think it's kinda interesting how we are "made in God's image"...and we "make" those with our image, sort of like God. Of course we don't "give life", but we give a sense. Perhaps that makes us more in God's image...seeing images with our own personal likeness as we are seen in His image.

Don't know...just thought of it.
