"Me, I'm of the mind that we could use less Jerry Falwells and Pat Robertsons in the world, and more Atticus Finches. "

Do very, very, *very* true.

When Muslim fanatics do it, it's barbarism, terrorism, crimes against humanity, etc.
When Christian fanatics do it, it's discipline, tough love, God's will, etc.

You have my pity.

No, we need to use stones. Remember, God's standards never change.

MA - "Why should that Deity's will define our morality?"

You sound like the bratty teen who thinks they know more than their parents.

Hey, are you a teenager?

LOL... I'll be 50 this November. Nice try.

I note you never actually answered my question. Why should a Deity's will define our morality? Do you personally define "good" as "Whatever God says"?

Come on... it's an honest question. Let's have an honest answer.

Hey, it's easier to dodge a stone than a bullet! So they've got a fighting chance!

I do believe that if God created us, and all creation, HE does know what's best, and can do no wrong.

JJB,

You have a point about the difficulty finding stones in the NYC. What's even worse is that the we're also supposed to stone rape victims, but only those raped in the city.

What's an enforcer of God's law to do? Maybe if you could find just one stone, God could multiply it into enough to kill all the disobedient kids and rape victims in Queens.

I don't consider those guys the best representatives of what Jesus taught. They just happen to be "famous."

Well that would be a capital offense, but can his parents still have him stoned at the age of 49?

"I do believe that if God created us, and all creation, HE does know what's best, and can do no wrong."

So, if you became convinced that God wanted you to, for instance, keep slaves, you'd do so?

Yes, I'd say the same of the Apostle Paul.

It is interesting that when many Christians want to justify bashing gays, they use Leviticus, yet it seems that most Jewish people don't bash gays.

Krystal - "all those old time immoralities have become normal"

That's what happens when we try to define morality ourselves. For example in one country it may be "moral" for a man to grab a woman's butt, while in another country it's not.

The only way to know what absolute morality is, which many people will say does not exist, is to go by the standards set down by God. Those standards NEVER change.

Mac:: The only problem there is that the G-d of the JEWS is definitely NOT the G-d of the MUSLIMS, and the G-d of the christians is not either, but then it's nnot the G-d of the JEWS either. and the same all over the world. Who, exactly has G-d's truth? THAT is a big problem.
