"New Agers" think subjectively. They'll believe anything EXCEPT a demonstrated fact.

Only when confronted with facts will they show any ability to be skeptical...

What? And even if that were true, why would that mean I was angry?

James - "it is not about reason"

Yes, I believe you are right.

Iatric - "I wonder if we have any of those "there is no truth" people around"

I think at least two!

BV says:
Mugger to New Ager - "I've got a gun in my pocket, so hand over your money or you're dead!"

New Ager to Mugger - "Maybe that's the truth for you, but it's not the truth for me. Besides, death is only an illusion."

I can only imagine what happens next (hopefully the mugger walks away scratching his head).

JN - "I prefer the mature sobriety of Buddha"

Oh yes, I'm sure the Buddha would approve of your disparaging remark!
_____

I'm sure you know nothing about Buddhism, which encourages rigorous critical evaluation of the Buddhist texts, rather than the blind self-brainwashing of Christians that humans drinking human blood isn't cannibalism.
_____

Is that how you would represent him, if you actually were a Buddhist?
_____

I am a Buddhist. Which means I don't represent Buddha; the core requirement of the Buddhist texts is personal responsibility, not attempting (and invariably failing) to emulate someone else because one hasn't a "self" of one's own.

Buddhism doesn't posit a "God" because it doesn't invent excuses by means of which to AVOID personal responsibility. "God made me do it" is irresponsibility.

"Buddhists" are persecuting "Buddhists" in Sri Lanka.

Get over your fact-free paranoia.

JN, I prefer the Love of God that would assume our flesh and die for us. (John 1;29, Genesis 22:8, Matthew 26;28, 1 Peter 1;19). Peace always
_____

You prefer to believe that unfounded speculations are instead proven fact, therefore dispensing with intellectual honesty and the necessary incertitude that underlies faith.

JN, Actually, the Vatican, along with many protestant Churches, signed a concordant with Germany, as it had done with others prior, to ensure that The Church could freely worship without fear of political means, yet of course, Hitler did not hold up to his end of the bargain.
_____

Those who believe in freedom of conscience -- you obviously do not -- don't make pacts with totalitarians. And they certainly don't defend or make fact-free excuses for such agreements.

The Vatican, in order to protect its "freedom of religion," identified Italian Jews for the Nazis, which resulted in holocausts.

So stop the self-serving lying against history.

And leave out the rude in-your-face assertions of your properly-private -- Christ said so -- religiospeculations.

RE: "Faith alone makes no sense."

It makes "no sense" to those, such as you, obviously, who do not understand the doctrine.
_____

Faith is a verb. The "doctrine" is not. Faith and doctrine are not the same thing. It is faith that animates the doctrine.

Nor is faith the same thing as grace, or the same thing as "belief". Grace is. Faith is a verb. The doctrine is the belief.

"Faith Alone" makes no sense to those who've read James 2:24.

Or 1 Corinthians 13, where Paul says love is more important than faith.
_____

Faith is prerequisite to love, because to love is to risk. Faith is the "courage" to take the risk.

life is good says:
And I suppose YOU are. I know plenty of people who have faith in God and yet go their own way and commit all kinds of sins,
_____

"Judge not lest ye be judged" -- doing the opposite of that being a "sin".

And those "sins" to which you refer being decided as being "sins" by YOU.

Ever stop the efforts to memorize stuff you don't understand to begin with long enough to criticially evaluate what you think and say? Or is there too much risk that exercising that psychological maturity might move you beyond clinging to memorized phrases into a genuine faith which honestly embraces doubt as a crucial element of faith?
