Honestly, I still don't get it. But that's okay....now something tells me I probably don't want to.

Re: "...Fact would be something existing through itself or perfected in some way. something perfective of knowledge of reality..."

You know the saying, "You have a right to your own opinion, but not your own facts."?

You don't have a right to your own private definition of the word "fact" either.

Macaron,

Any given public display of affection that's acceptable between a heterosexual couple is also acceptable between a homosexual couple as well.

Whether ANYONE should be engaging in PG or higher rated public displays of affection is another issue entirely.

Ethan Johnson,

Re: "...Gender is defined at birth..."

You mean it doesn't exist until a doctor announces, "It's a boy" or "It's a girl" over the newborn?

Gender is actually a lot more involved than that.

Iatric,

Re: "...To say that people are bullied into being Christians is just one more of the false talking points that get spread around..."

D. Robinson was pointing out the fallacy in the OP by asking a rhetorical question in the same line applied to Christianity. It's not a "talking point" that I've ever encountered before.

However, if you call what Dan Savage said about "the Bible guys in the hall" bullying, then I assure you kids ARE bullied into being Christian by their parents, or at least for as long as they're under their parents control.

Mark R. Allen,

Re: "...They used to say it also caused schizophrenia and autism. What a difficult choice for a poor boy..."

It's possible for disingenuous researchers to "prove" that anything they dislike "causes" any number of ills with a carefully selected-- or else non-existent-- control group.

Put very simply, newborn intersex babies have BOTH a penis and a vagina; it is much more more complicated than that, and much more more complicated than simple sexual orientation.

Thank you for that reference. I knew a little about birth intersex, but I *didn't* know about the treatment of it as described in this blog.

I'm off to see if I can find some stats, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's difficult.

Edit: It's pretty much impossible to get accurate stats and this website explains why:

Macaron,

Re: "...When you consider that ALL children behave differently..."

Ever consider that "difference" may caused by a pre-programmed sexual orientation?

Re: "...Some fathers who may be "rough" and excessively authoritarian will influence one child AGAINST incorporating that type of behavior, where another child from the same family will internalize that behavior. Or, mothers who are overly protective or passive will influence one male child to seek out other females of the same nature later on heterosexually, where another brother may be repulsed by it and even reject the "feminine" attraction alltogether and may become gay for that reason alone...."

You keep conflating innate erotic attraction with a social norm that accepts male assertiveness and female subdominance.

Mac:::: I wish that I was hermaphroditic, like the original ADAM. With no desire for the yestzer haRa regarding the body and its orifices. THAT is purely from the animal portion of the human soul.

Macaron to me says: "You're never going to see any apology to any hypocrite from me at any thread on AMAZON. I answer fools according to their folly. If your ego feels damaged, maybe you should seek counseling."

I say: Don't you think that you're taking what people say a little too personally? You seem to interpret every expression of disagreement as a personal attack and have reacted with vulgarity and rancor. You demonstrate a great deal of anger. It's not even about Kessler, she's a strong-willed person who can take it. Just for yourself, you ought to learn how to control your anger before you give yourself a heart attack or a stroke; especially if your on-line behavior reflects the way that you act off-line.

Mac:::: I don't know. Merely because it's on the net, doesn't make it true or useful research. Like someone wrote, much research can be biased or slanted to support unwarranted contentions. Ni modo..... yes, nothing is simple, is it........especially when it comes to sexual behavior::))

dischism,

As the blogger says, a lot of doctors want to define intersexuality out of existence. As in, "This newborn with an XX genotype was born with a penis and scrotum due to congenital adrenal hyperplasia, but this ISN'T intersexuality. She's a girl, and we need to do cosmetic genital surgery without her consent that might severely impair her ability to experience sexual pleasure as an adult, to repair her 'birth defect' of not having normal female genitalia."

Indeed, and it seems that getting the "girls" looking just right to please the boys seems far more important than allowing them self determination in gender identity in later life.

I liked the site I found, as they are ready and prepared to support the baby and family as is and allow the child to grow into the gender in which they feel comfortable, rather than allow doctors to operate and rid babies of tissues which are irreplaceable, certainly in terms of being able to attain sexual pleasure.

There was an excellent article in the New Yorker a few years ago about the athlete from South Africa who was competing as a woman and who became embroiled in a controversy about gender. The article discusses in depth the difficulty in arriving at a simple, unambiguous definition of gender.
