By the way, the Swing Era which basically covered the early 30s to the late 40s, was a genre that was available in three formats: 78 RPM, 45 RPM, and later, 33 1/3 RPM. In 1985, many genres were available in the 45 RPM, LP (33 1/3 RPM), 8-track cartridges, casettes, and CDs! What a time that was! Now it appears to be some LPs, CDs, and MP3s. I can also remember when the big thing was, "Direct to Disk" LPs in 1985. BIG DEAL, Most of the 78s that were ever issued were "Direct to Disk." Tape finally emerged in the mid-late 40s, along with "45" RPM records so that it was possible to make a mistake and edit it out, or make over-dubbings adding a new dimention to recorded music. The first LPs were issued by Columbia in 1948 and RCA in 1950. The music industry controls the format for the most part. However, due to consumer demand, many LPs are being reissued again as LPs. Long live the Long Playing (LP) record!
