I'm also thinking Ruby is part of the answer, but don't have any idea on what 'accompanies Italian pests" could be. The only thing I can come up with is "Ruby and the Pope Ticks". I pretty sure there's no band by that name.

I think it is Ruby and the Romantics. The Italian pests being "Roman Ticks" or Romantics.
