Here's how it goes, we'll each list out 50 favorite Queen songs and I will compile all the lists creating a Queen Compendium (that's us) definitive top 50 songs assigning points to each song from 1 to 50 on each list and adding them up. The song with the highest total will be the consensus number 1 and so on down the line. Sound like a plan? Take your time compiling your list before submitting it and let's have some fun. I'm working on mine right now.

Rand...so we have to list our 50 in a definitive order?

The only Queen album I own is that 2-CD Greatest Hits compilation. Do any of you fans want to recommend another album?

B. rogers says:
Savage...yeah...all of them!!!

Seriously, it depends on what songs you like off of Greatest Hits. Tell me what stands out for you and I'll recommend albums.

Yes, and we'll tally the scores and see what we come up with. I like this idea better than getting rid of all those great songs to come up with a number 1. This way we have a list that we all worked on and have something to show for it at the end of the day and something to talk about. By the way, have you heard the bonus tracks on The Miracle remaster? There's an instrumental track called Chinese Torture on it that is VERY COOL, Brian's signature guitar sound.

B. rogers says:
Rand...that was a bonus track on the original Capitol Records CD release as was Hang On In There and Invisible Man remix.

Oh man...okay I'll try ranking my top 50 in order...but it's gona take some time...so wait for me before youi compile it.

;D

I know once I submit it I'm going to feel uneasy about it...but I'll do it.

There's not really anything I don't like although I admit to listening to the first CD far more often than the second. I guess my favorites are 'Another one bites the dust', 'Somebody to love' and 'Don't stop me now'.

Savage Lucy...whichever Queen album you buy...make sure that they are the new 2011 remasters...the sound is unbeatable!

Like I said, take your time. I'll be here when you get back.

B. rogers says:
Well that's easy...get any cd from the 70's or early 1980's. Sounds like you like the ballads or more pop-oriented songs. I'd say that "A Night At The Opera", "A Day At The Races"(personal favorite of mine...gorgeous album!) and "The Game".

Really you can't go wrong with any album from Queen's 70's era. If you are willing to give an album repeated listenings to let it "seep in" then "Queen II" is a masterpiece which you will probably come to regard as one of the finest albums in your personal collection.

Savage Lucy

If you have $50 you can toss down, Amazon has the first 5 Queen cd's in a remastered box set, each with a second bonus disc of material ranging from awesome live cuts that have never seen official release, to early demo's and rarities that sound very good, to some head scratchers that aren't anything to get excited about. But you can get their first five album's in the box, which is an excellent place to start your collection for $10 each, in a case to house them all and since it's over $25 you can get them with free shipping! How's that sound?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I can't be spending willy on myself at this time of year, but I'll add these to my wishlist for reference. (And maybe I'll luck in to some Amazon gift cards.)

Or you can get the 2-disc remasters at Walmart for 11.88 out the door no waiting. Either way is good.

Savage Lucy says:
I refuse to buy music from Walmart. It's bad enough I have to buy food, soap, and clothes there. But not music after all their censorship drama.

I know what you mean Lucy. I buy most of my music from Amazon aside from some new releases at Best Buy. Wally World has the cheapest prices for the remasters over the counter though.

I know songs like "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Somebody To Love" aren't on my list. I just went with my instantaneous gut and I've just heard those songs soooo much.

I don't like "ranking" individual Queen songs...it's much easier to rank whole albums(for some reason).

Posted on Nov 30, 2011 11:22:12 AM PST
Good start Mr. Rogers! I'll get mine up shortly.

Rand...I just did it and didn't overthink it. If I would have spent a lot of time second-guessing before I posted it I would've driven myself slightly mad!

Rand...fantastic list!

D***...I forgot about "A Human Body"!!!! Definitely a top 50 song.

What do you think of "Hijack My Heart"? I noticed you had "Stealin'" on the list.

B.
Thanks, if I did it five minutes later it would look different, but that's what I'm sticking with. I had to decide between Drowse and I Want It All at the end. And I really like Drowse!
Hijack My Heart is good, a different style for Roger, almost in the Rod Stewart register for him!

Roger really had a great rock and roll voice, very underrated. Course that's easy to do when you have a frontman like Freddie in the spotlight.
