I stumbled upon some Liszt caricatures by Janos Jankos in a periodical and that made me think that maybe we should have a thread about caricatures.

Here is the Janko:

and one more from Janko of Liszt as abbot:

of course was a great "victim" for caricatures - among others here is the one with the canons:

Glenn Gould
may have been too much of caricture of himself for anyone to make a caricature of him... but I did manage to find one together with the caricatures he made of others - including Karlheinz Klopweisser (... I wonder who that is... clueless....):

There must be tons of caricatures out there - share them here.

Rasmus, I'll try to see these caricatures by Jankos; they sound interesting. The great tenor Enrico Caruso was also an artistic genius at drawing caricatures of himself and his fellow musicians. The Russian basso Fyodor Chaliapin was also painted and sculpted, but I don't know if he drew caricatures. If he did I'd like to see them. He was a brilliant make-up artist and costumier, unrecognisable from one role to the next.

Caruso was a brilliant caricaturist, both of himself and his contemporaries: Caricatures

If that's how that French cartoonist felt about Wagner I sure don't hope he stuck around for Schönberg!

I love that Klopweisser video! Of course I am just projecting personal feelings when I can't help of thinking of another Karlheinz from Germany...

I recall some interesting caricatures of Stravinsky beyond the famous portrait Picasso did; Erik Satie as well;

Wagner inspired many cartoonists, here are the results from google picture search:,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1536&bih=715&wrapid=tlif133190328028810&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=NjtjT7ixCIfmtQaF6KnOBQ

A great one of Mahler, a contemporary response to the massively-scored Symphony No. 6 (make sure to read the translation of the caption under "Description" below the picture itself):

Tchaikovsky (d'you think the artist thought his music was tragic or something?):

The oil painting of Ligeti, in which he appears muzzled and deteriorated and holding up a life sized deteriorated image of himself holding up a life sized deteriorated image of himself (into infinity), is one of my favorites. It appeared on the cover of a Wergo LP (then CD):

A very unflattering one of Handel-as-glutton:
