Ah, so Clara Schumann and Arnold Schonberg slept in the same bed! - So that is how "Transfigured Night" was begotten -- Schonberg would never have come up with something Romantic like that without Clara's help...

Sad about Robert S.'s destiny though, but art requires sacrifice...

Not I, Ken, but you are doing a fine job, although I can understand your wish to turn the page, or stop turning it, whichever the case may be. Perhaps a new voting game on favourite birthdays? E\After all, everyone has to be born sometime, else astrologers will go broke.

From the Trib's review of CSO's unusual program fthis week: "Joseph Martin Kraus, called the Swedish Mozart, was born the same year as Mozart and died a year later." A short life, and even briefer career. Life is a puzzlement, like careless writers and inattentive editors, but not their laughing readers.

There was a three-movement symphony by Kraus, another by Henri-Joseph Rigel, and Marc-Andre Hamelin played Haydn's D-major keyboard concerto, which I had never heard in concert, although I have long cherished recordings by Veyron-Lacroix, Marta Arrrrrgerrreachhhh, sic, Edwin Fischer, Wanda Landowska, and operhaps Michelangeli. Bernard Labadie, like Hamelin a French-Canadien, conducted reduced CCSO forces. I rely on you to correct any remaining errors ere you depart.

Buxtehude's birth years reminded me of a well-advertised headstone: "Sam Goldfeder, Wholesaler. Died August 12, as of September 1."

A passing today: Dieterich Buxtehude, Danish-German organist and composer . Born ca. 1637/39 and died 9 May 1707. Famous composers would traipse many miles to see him, only to traipse back when they found they were expected to marry his daughter.

Our Royal Danish Co-Respondent Rasmus Oerndrup wrote litle while ago ... how time flies, on 13 September 2011 to be precise; his dispatches have just reached these shores by express opacket-boat ... that Clara Josephine Schumann-Wieck and Arnold Schoenberg were born on the same day, He adds that because of this he wisely is ditching astrology.

Not only on the same day, dear Rasmus, but in the same bed~ This precipitated Schumann to precipitate himself into the River Rhein on a singular Journey. There are more things on earth and in heaven than are dreamt of in your, or Soren Kirkegaard's philosoophy. Let's see nor, Either/Clara ... Or/Schoenberg ... no, NO, it just can't be done. ... Guards, GUARDS! (Alarums and tumults)
