what are the great deals out there?

Bill Mobley says:
Bach: The Organ Works (Helmut Walcha) Good price.
(I thought I hated organ music, and that it all sounded like the spooky stuff the phantom of the opera was always playing. Boy was I wrong. Some of the music does start off like phantom-of-the-opera stuff, but it changes after a time into something really unusual and beautiful.)

Marilyn Horne The Complete Decca Recitals
(Great price on this, if you like opera singers)

Leontyne Price also has special box sets. I purchased the one with spiritual songs. The packaging was nice. Each cd came in a little jacket which was a replica of the original album cover. And of course the music and sound is outstanding.

Handel: Messiah (Dublin Version, 1742) Butt on Linn
I bought this a month or two ago and I think it is the best I have heard.
13,71 dollars from third party seller - bargain or not? - judge for yourself...

I just got one of the Warner Handel boxes: Handel Edition: Alcina / Orlando.
There are several of these boxes that appear to be worth having, each for less than $20. If that isn't enough Handel (of course not), there is also the Virgin opera box, which I found for $35 new: Handel (Rodrigo; Radamisto; Admeto; Fernando; Arminio; Deidamia) prices vary.

Amazon was selling J-Diddy's new Drama Queens CD for 6.99 until a couple days ago.

Come on James. It's not elitist to like classical music anymore. Everybody and their grandmother hate snobs these days.

A search for "box set" here on Amazon should offer you enough material. I'd like to recommend, however, these Klemperer boxes (apparently the first ones in a series):

Romantic Symphonies
Beethoven: Symphonies & Overture
Bruckner: Symphonies 4-9

Bogdan -

The next three Klemperer boxes are coming out early in 2013; they're listed as January new releases at www.MDT.co.uk. There's a Brahms set, a Mozart orchestral set, and a set of concertos.

Bill,

Thank you - yes, they are also listed here on Amazon:

Brahms: Symphones / Overtures / Deutsches Requiem
Concertos
Mozart: Symphonies / Serenades / Overtures

And I hear there's more on the way... What a treat, indeed! Merry Christmas!

Skaynan says:
As stated elsewhere, for winter lovers on a budget: The Essential Sibelius

This box is an absolute steal for the asking price, with some of the best recordings ever of this repertoire. Grab the last copy from Amazon!

For a serious music lover, and also "wintery", I highly recommend my recent purchase David Oistrakh: The Complete EMI Recordings

A bit off the beaten path, this Dvorák: The Masterworks (40CD Box Set) is also a favorite. Similarly, some of the best recordings ever of some of the works included.
