By most accounts Einstein was a reasonably competent violinist and pianist, at least early on when he had the time to practice. His second wife, Elsa, said she fell in love with Albert because he played Mozart so beautifully on the violin.

Einstein once told Shinichi Suzuki: "The theory of relativity occurred to me by intuition, and music is the driving force behind this intuition. My parents had me study the violin from the time I was six. My new discovery is the result of musical perception."
