Skaynan says:
March: How do you like Giulini's and Celi's 9th? Of course, Tintner's 9th being great is my opinion, not a fact...

Skaynan says:
PJ- please, I didn't say he uses the earlyest versions of ALL the symphonies, I actualy named the ones he does (and forgot to name the first), and concernig the fourth- he was wise to chose the "hunt" Scherzo instead of the original. Do you seriously prefer Inbal's recording to Tintner??? or are you just trying to be argumentive?

<<Do you seriously prefer Inbal's recording to Tintner??? or are you just trying to be argumentive? >>

actually for the third and seventh I prefer inbal.
you made some emphatic statements which were incorrect.

I notice you just re-edited your post.
('last edited six minutes' ago which will change of course.)

so I'll take it that my comments were helpful to you in an 'errata' sort of way.

your original statement ignored Inbal's pioneering effort to seek out the earliest versions of the bruckner symphonies. I know several people who haven't warmed up to tintner's recordings. it seemed important to point that out for them.

Symphonies 0-9 & Symphony in F Minor

and as a box set goes, it is actually cheaper for one to acquire.

Bruckner: The Complete Symphonies (00-9)

The Tintner recordings I really didn't get on with were the Ninth, but especially his rendition of the Fifth which, in all honesty, I found a bit dull. Then again No.5 is for me the most impenetrable of the big Bruckner symphonies, not even Jochum has been completely convincing. That's where Gunter Wand comes in........

....the Penguin Guide recommends and indeed rosettes, Sinopoli's Fifth. Anyone know this one???

Posted on Mar 10, 2012 8:03:58 AM PST
Skaynan says:
My favorite 5th is Jochum with the RCO
A. Bruckner: Symphony No. 5

Sadly, it's not part of any "set". But that's true for my favorite recordings of almost all Bruckner's symphonies. For example, my favorite 8th is Wand and the lubeck
Bruckner: Symphony No. 8
Again- not part of any set. And the list goes on.

Autonomeus says:
Bartok -- Yes, Sinopoli's 5th is excellent, a more modern, streamlined account than many of the classics.

the last vote missed mine, but it also looks like several points were added......
it isn't just a simple matter of adding my missed vote into it.

game master.... where are you when we need you?

that said, adding a single point into the two cycles from mine gives this list
which I believe is the correct one...

now it is just getting silly, 7 points to the wand in a single vote?
dr. moreau time.
speaking of which, not everyone loves sinopoli's bruckner 5

Sorry palJacky,

Wand was 16 on Bogdan's post and I worked off of that. I'll correct mine. On second thought, I don't know which list to vote off of now. I'll be back when things get sorted out.
