Curiously, for me Bruckner's 5th was the only symphony of his that I could fully relate to on first hearing. By contrast, the grace of the 7th grew on me quickly, but not immediately, though that might have been because it was the first of his symphonies that I came to know. The 8th, however, took many hearings and even then, for a while, I liked only the second half - until at last I came to recognise it all. Among the other symphonies, the grandeur of the 9th I can appreciate, but distantly, the 3rd I particularly enjoy and the charms of the 6th have gradually dawned on me.

Yes, the Jochum/Dresden recording of the Fifth is my favorite, but I also really enjoy Wands first RCA recording. Have to listen to the Fifth at rock n roll volume, though!
