Piso, I have not heard that cd, but I'll note it. Strange - it has never even crossed my mind to look for Nordic baroque music, so this should be interesting! This is the only recording this quartet has made as far as I can see.

Antonio ("Tony the Bubble") Myerowitz-Rondini was arrested after a neighborhood denizen reported that he was seen on a path near a village in Tuva, at 2:33 A.M., eating a bullfrog by flashlight. Accosted and questioned, he replied that he was preparing for an audition to join one of the famous local ante-nasal singing groups.

Philippe Reichenbach (of the Clawd Reichenbach Falls Reichenbachs?) -- That's OK about God creating light and all, just as long as He still made the sun and the moon a few days later as an afterthought, to keep things straight.

James Battista, Re: Paavo Jarvi's DUI charge

As long as they don't charge him with CUI, he will be fine. ;)

My understanding of the Sokolov situation was, that he came a-cropper when asked to present his passport, do the eye test and fingerprints. I further understand that England is REALLY cracking down - my daughter and I (as innocuous a pair as you will ever find - I'm a piano player, she's a ballerina), were mercilessly grilled last summer whilst getting in to London...

Dmitri -

I lost my mother on Sept 7, 2008 and my father on Dec. 12, 2008. My sincerest condolences! My reaction was one of understandable grief but also a strange realization that my childhood was finally officially over. My heart goes out to you!

OK, I don't know very many outside this forum who'd be interested in this, and probably not a lot here, but since it came up....

The following is at:

"Symphony Orchestra Leader Accused of DUI

"Last Update: 3/20 12:43 pm

"The conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra finds himself in legal trouble this morning. Paavo Jarvi is accused of driving drunk.

"Police cited him after an incident Thursday morning on Columbia Parkway. Jarvi is scheduled to conduct two events with the CSO this weekend. He has led the symphony since 2001.

"The police report says Jarvi slept at an intersection through several light changes. The report says he smelled of alcohol, failed a field sobriety test, and refused a breathalyzer test.

"According to the report, the officer says Jarvi didn't know exactly where he was and turned off his car without putting into park. He told the police officeer he was listening to music.

"The officers had his car towed, and took Jarvi to his Indian Hill home.

"Symphony officials released the following statement on the matter:
Music Director Paavo Jarvi has informed the CSO that he was cited for suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence on March 19. While this is a matter of deep concern, we cannot comment further on this pending legal matter. Paavo Jarvi will conduct the CSO as scheduled this weekend."

For the very salaciously-minded, there is also a video at:

Cruiser Cam of Paavo Jarvi DUI Citation from Fairfax Police

If the video cue doesn't work from here, it will from the website above.

Heh. See what too much classical music can do. I'm sure he was listening to Act I of "Die Walkure", the flight through the storm to the house of big trubs. Maybe trying to hitch a ride with onea them gals on them horses. Or at least onea them thar hippy F & M stations....

Next time I played in his group, I'd be double-checking to see if he meant the cues.

Alan R. Omer

I know what you mean by childhood officially over. I am sorry to hear of your loss. The death of your parents is very close together.

Until I die now. I will remember that my mother died on the Ides of March. She wasn't religious and yet I just changed TV set in the nursing home to AMC and Constantine was showing which is a movie about a spiritual struggle between heaven and hell with Keanu Reeves. She died ten minutes later as the movie was ending.

Outside of classical music there is this song by Aerosmith called Spaced on "Get Your Wings." I wept the first time I heard it and each time after. The lyrics end "And I'm never ever going back, I'm off the track, no one even knows I'm alive." Not very uplifting lyrics. But now that the time has come I know I am not alone. I haven't/don't want to listen to this song.

Actually I've been exploring Tippett and now Webern. I am asking myself if not now...when? How certain can I be about tommorrow?

Fred
