Wow! A Frenchman who wrote Russian music for a film depicting Russia but shot in Spain. Perfect! I think Jarre was a genius.

It is a great score. I have always loved it. Arthur Fiedler made a great recording of the main theme with the Boston Pops. Unfortunately, that recording is still in my head and frankly I found the composer's rendition to be somewhat lacking in passion. But of course the Fiedler recording was made around the same time as the movie. The music was much fresher back then. There is probably an Erich Kunzel recordings also, another master of the pops idiom who died just a couple of years ago.
