What are your opinions on CW's "Arrow"? Good, bad, or indifferent? Better than "Smallville", worse, or about the same?

I haven't watched near enough to have a good opinion but I want to start watching at some point after seeing they are adding Huntress to the line-up. Don't know how that will go since it's up against other stuff I watch though.

In all fairness, I didn't watch Smallville much at 1st either. I like it better when they get to the team-ups myself. Heck, I tend to like animation better than live action but I did like Lois & Clark and Smallville just not as much as the animated Superman of the 90's.

One thing is for sure. I don't know Green Arrow's rogues as much as Batman, Superman & others. I tend not to like the street level thug stuff as much as the super human stuff so I'm not sure Green Arrow will do it for me. Merlyn & Count Vertigo are about what I know for Green Arrow but I hope it gets past mob stuff fairly quickly or I just don't know if it will hold interest for me. I'd be happy to watch more characters I'm less familiar with as long as they're not in the mob/regular person category.

I'm enjoying it. It gets better each episode, I think (last week's possibly being the exception).

J. Case says:
Did Green Arrow ever kill anyone in DC Comics before the New 52 Reboot?

Is Count Vertigo going to be shown, also does he have a dark version of him that is going to be shown?

I'm not sure if Green Arrow killed before the reboot. But Count Vertigo will be in the show. And there is a character call The Dark Archer. It's a good show, but at times it can be a little cheesy.

J.S. Lewis says:
I've been enjoying it as well. It's a little early to tell if it's better or worse than Smallville (big Smallville fan talking here, by the way), but I'd say if you liked Smallville, then there's a good chance you'll like Arrow. Understandably, there's less teen drama in Arrow than there was in the early years of Smallville, so Arrow is more comparable to the last 5 seasons of Smallville than the series as a whole. Another way Arrow is different from Smallville is that none of the villains really have super powers; the show kind of takes a cue from the popularity of the sort of superhero realism that Nolan's Batman trilogy is known for.

Also, if your familiar with the CW, then you'll recognize the brand of performance that the network is known for. I'm not saying it's bad acting by any means; it's just distinctly and recognizably "CW", if that makes any sense. Take from that what you will.

Like I said, I'm diggin' the show. Now if they would just get rid of that intro....

I've been watching it more in the break of new episodes & I def. like the island flashbacks at the very least. They are providing an interesting back story for him.

I hate to say it but the main actor reminds me enough of Chris O'Donnel that he feels like he should be Batman's sidekick to me 1/2 the time. It's an unfortuneate distraction for me. Hope I didn't just plant that seed for anyone else.

J. Case says:
They could make a longer intro with showing parts from future episodes.

Do you think Deathstroke is going to make more appearnces?

Frankie D says:
Arrow is very good. Smallville was good in the beginning but took too much time with the Lana story, Lex left and was not feeling Lois. Hated the Justice League. Show was awful the last 4 seasons. Arrow has good action and I do not known much about his gallery as well. Deathstroke will be in more eps. this year. The guy from Spartucus will be him. That Crxtix guy. Huntress girl cannot act.

J. Case says:
In tonight's episode it was Huntress.
She seem's like a Female Punisher.

How is her mask suppose to hide her identity? You see her eyes, hair, most of her face.

Because criminals are dumb? Haha, I dunno. I tend to ignore stuff like that in comic book shows and movies and just accept it for what it is.

Robin: Domino mask
Green Lantern: Domino mask
Green Hornet, Lone Ranger, Spirit, Riddler, Black Cat: All domino masks

Superman: Takes off glasses and combs his hair.

At least she hides her identity better than Arrow who wears a hoodie and eye shadow.

J. Case says:
Um you can't see his face clearly, the hood hides his hair making it harder to identify unless some person has a astounding ability to look at eyes, and know that they have see that person before.

Season 2 has started funny is I keep seeing season 2 promos when it's already started.

Haven't watched last night's episode yet but it's really cool to see Team Arrow coming together. I'm happy that this show "feels" like it takes place in the DCU.

I like the show quite a bit. Like Shield and Batman (aka Person of Interest) more, but it's one of my top shows.

SOOO excited about The Flash though. Been waiting for it since before last season of Arrow started! Can't believe how much of the justice league we have on TV now!

I was a huge fan of Smallville, though haven't finished it yet! Two seasons left, I think...I keep saving it for when I get caught up to date on everything else, but I never do (still have 150 shows left on my Tivo even after making some progress thanks to the summer break).

I love Green Arrow on Smallville too, so it's all a bit weird feeling to reboot it 2 minutes later, but what the heck, they've done a pretty darned nice job, so I can't complain. (Love Arrow's absurd workouts too ;)

Wouldn't it be mostly difficult to move fast in a leather outfit?
Leather isn't a light material compared to spandex, and that of a football uniform if you removed the pads.

Also his boots look far more like athletic shoes made in the style of boots than combat boots, doc martins, or any other kind of boots.

There's this pattern with the CW superhero shows:

***spoilers if you haven't been watching them.

Per the comics (well, before the New 52 reboot) Clark is supposed to end up with Lois. In Smallville, he can't even get Lana to start with (her boyfriend and her kryptonite necklace), she gets possessed, there's the whole "woman of Kleenex" issue, then he gets her, then she marries Lex, and eventually he ends up with Lois.

Per the comics, [Green] Arrow is supposed to end up with Black Canary. In the show, he starts off as Laurel's boyfriend, cheats on her with her sister Sarah, 5 years later Laurel's with Tommy, Sarah shows up and becomes [Black] Canary, there's a potential relationship with Felicity that never happens (she's like the Moneypenny), Felicity might get involved with Barry Allen (who's supposed to end up with Iris) or Ray Palmer (who's supposed to hook up with Jean Loring), then [spoiler deleted] then Laurel becomes the Canary...

Barry's supposed to end up with Iris, but, you guessed it, she already has a boyfriend.... And so on.

In the case of The Flash, they're altering stuff from the source material, but they're doing it with an in-universe reason. Like they could do the same thing in the post-Crisis Earth 1 and still be in continuity, which is awesome.

Art Franklin says:
I want to get to the team-ups in Arrow, but it's slow-going slogging through the emo stuff in Season 1. Where is Oliver Queen's charisma and can't he afford to buy it back? They show these family interactions and instead of having a conversation they lob guilt trips back and forth. Yet the show is well-liked by viewers. When do I get to the cool part?

Posted on Mar 2, 2015 4:53:51 PM PST
It s true that the family stuff in season one and even season 2 is pretty much unbearable. I can not count how many times I wanted to slap Thea and tell her to stop whining. As time goes on the family drama gets less and less screen time and in season 3 is non existent. And in season 3 Thea is actually a likable character.

I think due to the popularity of "The Flash," this season they've made Arrow "more fun" (sillier and goofier.) On the other hand, they've made The Flash more serious (Barry guilt-tripping over a hero's sacrifice at the previous season's finale.)

Meanwhile, the relatively less popular SHIELD keeps getting seriouser and seriouser. (Serious isn't in these days, I guess.)

Hey, after next season (season 5) they can finally quit this "5 years ago" crap, which outlived its entertainment value long ago.

WolfPup says:
I never liked that. I was totally fine with a single episode devoted to it back on Smallville. It's like okay, I get it, he spends five years on an island, blah blah blah. I don't need to see constant flashbacks to it.

Last season was less annoying to me since at least it wasn't on the island anymore, and this season's less annoying since it jumps back for less than a minute at a time it seems like. Doesn't actually ADD anything to the show, but it's short and somewhat interesting this year, so not too big a deal.

Soooo glad The Flash doesn't do that.

I save The Flash/Arrow/Supergirl/Shield for about last, so I'm only now getting in the current seasons.

LOVED the ending of Shield last was basically a movie, and much better than both Ultron and CorporateStar Wars.
